Just before anybody bi**hes at me i have searched the forums for info on this but was unsure wheather if i posted any1 would reply, i have a couple of questions, 1. when hooking up the light to the ecu which wire is the vvt one??
2. when the wire is reconnected, do you just cut and reconnect it with the wire to the light hooked up as an extra?? so instead of having the single wire it goes from the ecu to the other half of the original and the light??
im not sure if anybody understands this cos i found it hard to explain
2017 Triton - The "free supplied by work" daily 2018 Camry V6 - The actual daily 1997 Trueno BZ-G - The Garage Queen 1997 Supra SZ-R - Now with added boost!
the vvt one is the red one with the black trim, on the tree conenctors to ur computer its in the middle of the biggest connector on the top row, and on the rite should be a straight red one.
2: ok i dont get u either dude, i will try explain it again, the way i dide it was....
i found the acc line to my stereo... i recrimmped it with both wires jamed into the crimp, then i ran it into the +ve leg of the led, then from the -ve leg of the led i ran another wire, then in the middle of that i ha dmy resitor, then i cut the wire vvt wire to the computer and reconnected it withe a double ended crimp and just wrapped one of the ends of the vvt wire, and the -ve from my led together jammed them in one end of the crimp, and then put the other end of the vvt wire in the otehr end of the crimp, easy as pie
i cant remember the exact spec, but u want a resitor thats gonna use up at least 11.3 of those 12 volts.
so....
*goes and thinks*
dammit i cant remember the formula for working out potential dividers
oh well here sthe vvt document again:
(i didnt write this lol no way would i be seen dead in a trueno, and yes it does work for ae111's as well)
Note that the following was carried out on my AE101 Toyota Trueno, Silvertop. I don't know if its applicable to other models.
You'll need:
1 x 5mm LED (any colour should work ok, but will result in slightly different brightnesses when using the same resistor)
1 x 5mm LED holder
1 x 560 Ohm resistor (0.125W or larger)
About 1m of 2 core cable
Heatshrink tubing or insulation tape
Cable ties
Soldering iron and/or small screw terminal connectors
Procedure - Wiring:
Solder wires onto LED legs. Make a note of the longer of the 2 LED legs, as this is 'positive'. Cover with heatshrink tubing to protect from short circuits.
In one of the wires, break it and solder in the 560 Ohm resistor (either wire, doesnt really matter)
Connect positive side of LED (the longer leg) wire to a switched 12V/ignition power source. Any easy place to find this is the back of your stereo
Connect the Negative side of the LED to the VVT output on the ECU's 26 pin connector. This will switch to Gnd when VVT is activated, causing the LED to turn on. The ECU is located behind the stereo, but I think accessing it from the passenger foot well is the easiest if you pull the panels off on the side. Its a bitch to get at, and I recommend cuting the wire about 10cm back from the ECU and joining into it using screw or crimp terminals as the easiest way. Make sure you reconnect both ends of the wire you cut, otherwise your VVT won't go no more.
hey man, sorry ot hassle again, just checked ur profile - whered you score the cool front grill dude? been looking for that sort of thing for my levin but cant find any anywhere..... cheers, damo
just remeber... when VVT is on..
red wire black trace goes to ground
black wire red trace goes 12v +
.. engine off, both wires dead..
.. engine on, both wires 12v +
and you may also wanna add a diode to your circuit, just to ensure your computer doesnt take any sort of reading from either of the wires =)
[being over protective but what the hey!]
had ago at wiring one to my car but it dosnt seem to be working. iv done what was stated: negative wire to ecu (red wire with black trim) postive wire to powersource whi i got from the stero. oh yeah i also added the resistor. the only time the light turns on is when i turn the key to ACC. i start the car the light goes away. drove the car and didnt get any light. what could be wrong? is my vtt foked?
goto the club4ag.com wesbite and check the ecu pin out diagrams for the silvertop 4age and find the correct wire ur looking for, dont just rely on the colour someone says that it is, yours could be different
hey, red with black stripe is the right one dude, but it can be in a different place depend on your transmission. the ecu for an auto silvertop is different for a manual. if your car is an auto, the red/black wire is in the 16pin block instead - pin 7 i think. also, you'd better make sure you vvt wire is connected again.... hope that helps, damo
[12:10pm] ·Thrust· Quote: ·crack· well, im off to dick stiff to go get stuff for vvt light , ·f0rkstar· thats about as usfull as having a full lock light.. ·f0rkstar· just so when your doing ultra sharp supermarket parking.. you can see a light come on
yea VVT only works when upto temp... I find the light really good... lets u know when to thrash ohh and if ur runing the heater at full blast coz you have cold girls in the car... you might find VVT stops working due to the engine temp dropping
