PS belt cracked - WoF issue?

Ive had a mate fail his WoF due to his "power steering belt being worn"
i looked at it last night and it seems to have a few little cracks in it but nothing major at all (my alternator belt is in far worse looking condition, so not worried about it at all)

can the WoF man rightly fail him on this?

i dont see it as a safety issue.
is there somewhere i can print something out of the wof manual and show the wof guy and tell him to stop trying to get work out of my mate?

Yup, comes under steering components. they will argue that "if the belt fails during a corner when it is under load, this will cause the steering to become heavy. this can cause the driver to lose control of the car and crash"
It can also fail for not running true over the pullies, being lose or having no belt when there should be one.
the crashing thing is a bag full of bulldust to me, but i dont make the rules

yep its part of the steering system and can be failed in a wof

If the only thing I failed a warrant on was a worn accessory belt, I'd be happy.

by charging in excess of $90+gst in labour + the cost of parts to change an indicator bulb "that isnt bright enough", replace the PS belt and "having to cut the alternator belt off so we can get to the PS belt, so we'll have to change that too".
This is on a nana-spec AE92 4AFE corolla sedan

yes they can fail you on it, it depends who you go to.. some will rather pass with no ps belt then a warn one, because if it breaks steering could get stiff unexpectedly ect

there feeding him bull if they think you have to cut the alternator belt off tho, you just loosen it off... and if they dont know how to do that then they shouldn't be a micanic

take it somewhere els to get it replaced then go back for the recheck

thats what i asked him! especially for their little shitter runabout
its apparently cause they brought the 'good car' (when were mitsis ever good cars?) from that dealer, so they get it serviced there, and out of habit, take the rolla there too :S
