agree

also at certin points it looks like a 350/370zx and a rx8 all mashed together
good looking car, and its still a prototype so alot of things will get changed around

boxer engine dosnt seem too bad, time will tell tho as to what its spec's are

Windows look like off 370z/GTR, perhaps they used 370z as base for this mashup?

Looks like everything else on the road, these design guys need a large injection of inspiration.

As far as I'm concerned there is not enough visually different cars coming out these days from the main manufacturers.

Are they all buying there light units from the same suppler etc....

If inspired off an AE86, sh*t go old school and use the old sharp lines but with up to date interiors and a few plastic pieces.
That’s a car that would sell…..

No it will not, unless it costs $20000.
Majority of AE86 admirers are poor people who don't buy brand new cars. Or just people who don't buy brand new cars.

sports cars have always followed similar design cues. you cannot ignore that fact when making a statement like "all these new cars look the same".

Guess the point I'm trying to make is that cars as of late look very uninspired and are all too similar.

Sure design for a certain type of vehicle follows a similar line but there has been more variation in the past, it’s very much like follow the leader these days rather than original design or concepts.

Since the wind has been taken out of the automotive industry I guess there is not too much to argue this point other than it is just a simple observation.

I'll stand by my statement which may or may not only apply to me

I'd give it a nudge anyday :D

Needs more 4-AGE, 'cos subaroos 'r poos

I like the new funky sports cars, although they all look similar, as cogent has shown, all of the 90s sports cars looked similar too (300zx - gto, JZA80 - FD3S - S14) and IMO the cars should look similar as they are targeted at the same market.

Designers always have and always will follow trends. Not to say its bad, its just what happens, and this is what jap sports coupes look like at the moment.

Really hope its going to be lightweight

Sure but in the old days you could say ah that a Nissan..ah thats a Toyota...

Seems the only car company I can say that about (excluding luxuary exotic cars) is Dodge.

They have style and its sets them apart from the rest.
Distinctive lines sperates thier design from others avalible in NZ also.

I think that I just don't dig where these new cars are coming from, does that make me old?

Anyways nay from me, looks all to much like the current lexus sports coupe.

needs less boxer, but can understand the economics of using an engine thats already meeting emission standards etc as there isint much to be said about toyotas current lineup in the exciting stakes.

needs more ability to fit zero offset rims, hah

all the 86 guff is a bit silly, they are never going to be able to build something that cool again - the hachi is a great car because it weighs so little, modern crash safety etc means thats a thing of the past

so needs more GO

if long champs could look good on it, i'd buy one,

im sure a STI 2.5 box will give it some GO. the moment the tuners in japan get there hands on the car, there will be conversion options aplenty.

as long as its not as boring to drive like a altezza i'd be happy with it, the IS range has never been inspiring unless your pockets are deep, and if there deep your not buying a lexis,

i think that both of those are really cool (the toyotas)

the curvy lines are just the way cars are going dopeamean, i think they are inspired at the same time they are looking foward to the future not into the past.

IMO some of the older cars are pretty ugly very square lines etc, new cars are more curvy and areodynamic.

i love old fxgt's ae82's etc, but the lines on them are really kinda ugly if you look at it close. but at the time they came out that was what was in!

haha just found somthing interesting about the ft-86 color
Sports cars have to be red, but we wanted a new red,” chief engineer Tetsuya Tada said. “So we came up with shoujyouhi red, the traditional red color of a Japanese monkey’s” backside.

from http://www.cargurus.com/blog/2009/10/07 ... w-toyobaru

[edit] and as for the styiling, a above hey are looking twords the future.. hence the name FT-86 means Future toyota 86
