I need a few full sheets (almost
) to fix rust holes in a project
Does it need to be thicker in areas such as the pillars?
3mm is too thick.
0.75mm is standard panel steel thickness.
Pillars I think are the same thickness but usually have several layers/shapes sandwiched together for strength.
Not all engineering shops will have stuff that thin.
I recommend just rocking up and asking politely if you can go through their scrap bin. Works for me. Take something to measure with and CASH.
Stuff from the scrap bin is usually sold off the books, so its cheap. If you eftpos it, you will end up paying tax because they have to put it on the books.
Full sheets are pretty big. Never bought one. I guess they would be about 1.2x2.4M thats a LOT.
Twin Lakes sheet metal on Blenheim st in Upper Hutt has the stuff. But there will be someone in LH.
