For polishing all I will say is AutoSol and a Rag.

I've been trying to get mine on the Silvia all polished up... what a mission!! Found it real hard to get deep enough to get all the dimples out and get down to a smooth surface. Finally getting there but wouldn't do it again!

The biggest issue is the sanding. Once its smooth a bit of autosol and a rag and it comes up like a mirror.

If the part is smooth but painted/covered in grime, you could try getting it chemically cleaned then use autosol as xsdrift mentioned. I had a local engine builder chemically clean/strip my rocker cover when i went to get it painted. Came up mint.

Chemically cleaning something will get all the built up gunk off it, but it wont flatten off surface imperfections which is what you need to do to polish stuff.
Depending on how bad it is, start off with 400 grit and work up to 1500-2000grit then autosol, it'll look like a mirror.

hey matt,

Like dellorto suggests use 1500 - 2000 grit WETTED out and wrap it around a flat block or piece of wood on flat surfaces and really get into it. The idea is to get the surface as flat as possible (Like a glass surface) thats when you will acheve the best shine.

then finish off with autosol and it will look like a mirror, I have a small buffing wheel you can borrow. Getting stuff polished = $$$

btw Ill have my tig sorted tues mate so will sort those bits for yah asap. :P
