T-50 Dog engaged-straight cut gear box (Possible group buy)

Hello people, i have been weighing up my options on what gear box to run in my 86 and have come across a possible deal on the above title. We were wondering if anyone else would be interested interested.
The info an the moment is a bit scarce as the person is quite busy, but has given me the ratios that he would be using.

1st 2.7
2nd 1.73
3rd 1.33
4th 1:1
5th .861 standard gears.

1st to 4th gears shall be straight cut and dog engaged were as 5th gear shall stay original
As for price he was looking at the 6k+gst just off the top of his head but promised me a more accurate price when
he is not so busy. So i proposed a group buy situation to possibly bring the price down for anyone who would like one of these in their 86.
Please let me know if anyone is interested and will take it from there.

Seems very expensive for a box with a close ratio first and second,third gears vertually standard ratio.

This is the standard ratios for a T50.
I think that the price is pretty cheap to be honest. Quaife Kits are Over the 10k mark, so i think anything under 6k is cheap, but hey this aint for everyone!!!

Not totally sure but going on a mates old school trd kit anywhere from 200 upwards.His motor is quite worked and puts out about 200ishHP atw and has had no major problems in a million years as its about 10-15 yrs old.
This is what i want from people, questions to ask the builder.

fit new dog rings at least once a year as normal maintence?

I purposely stayed away from dog engagement in my box fro that reason.

Dog box can change slightly quicker, but at the expense or durability.

That's interesting, there has been little or no wear on the dogs each time we pull the gearbox down. It is a Quaife and been in the car for 23 years, the dogs are much bigger (wider and longer) then the dogs I have in one of my T50's (which has not seen enough use to gauge wear) so this may have someting to do with it. It has done a lot of work though.

have you got a T50 floating around??

if you do ill weigh my W55 with 4age bell etc and will compare, i highly doubt the diference will be any more than 10kg, and IMO 10kg aint worth a $5000 difference, not even close.

I would WAY rather pay a tenth as much for a stronger 'box that is easy as to come by and sacrifice a couple kilos

Well what can i say. I put up any idea for people who may want one of these but all you get is people telling me what to do!!!
I my self want one, others want to put in a W series and thats fine too.
Every top race car have these, ive pulled apart alot and found only minor problems with them. If you treat something like crap then its gona fail.
I have pulled down gear boxes after every meeting, most of you probably dont pull em down at all.
This aint for everyone, and i understand that.
As NZ_AE86 said our mates gear box is 23 years old and has had minor problems but nothing major. You guys need to stop reading crap on the net and see it for yourselve's.

This is not just about making a strong gearbox and better ratios but about having dog engagement.
Unless you've done a lot of racing with and without dog engagement you can't really comment.
A dog engagement gearbox transforms a car, the speed at which you can change gear. When your changing gears at high rpm is when they really shine. Then if you make the ratios closer too then you'll go another step up the ladder.

Paid $2350 new for my trd t50 non dog box of course but at least its full close ratio kit but probably cant handle the power output your making.
From what i`ve seen of my friends dog Quaife they wear the dogs and start jumping out of engaugement but his solution was to buy another one you could contact him and buy his old kit and get it repaired hell he could probably fix it for you lol.

The builder has said there will be room to remachine the dogs as they wear. Would be interested in ur mates old kit. depending on dollars
