Car was doing fine guys, not as bad as you may think - Maybe pulling the gearbox out 100 times made it seem like that lol
The engine has only actually ever been rebuilt once in its life but it didnt really need to be rebuilt. The pistons in the first engine came with it when I bought the engine off Vvega and had only thought it was going to make 250kw max. The bores had been machined a bit too big for the pistons but I decided to just try it out anyhow as I didnt have much $ as was studying at Uni doing my BE . Result - loud pistons but still did the job.
So then bought some new pistons and bored the block to the correct size, that engine did 2 drag seasons 10 runs per meeting about 6 meetings per season, about 4 track days, and 2 superlaps.
Until I installed an electronic boost controller and from there everything went down hill
It got boost spikes which fried the top rings at the drags, replaced those, then went to Puke and the controller again was playing up and spiking to 30psi+ when it was tuned for only 20psi along with fuel surge which I never have encountered as I normally ran over half a tank of gas. So it killed a piston.
Lesson - Simple boost taps FTW. Or buy a $$ electronic controller which works properly.
Fuel return plumbed into wrong location not allowing pick up area to fill fast enough
Got married bought a house and havent had the time to put in some new pistons
Built another engine for a guy which took 3-4 months of my spare time after hours. I guess some things have to come before your own car.
Any how, enough of my blabble.
Good luck for those competing tomorrow.
