You werent disrespectful so no need to apologize as i took no offence to any of it.
You like everyone else is intitled to your opinion and just because its me dont hold back, im nothing speacial but i like those who speek their minds.

Based on what this is all about im far from being innocent in my younger days and growing up is way over rated, but thats also a different from being responcable based on maturity.

Time and places are the answer and when i was younger i to wanted to see how far i could push things, as much as that was wrong it never stopped me.

There is a bit of a differance between what 20's and under use for toys over what i had which was a trusty old 63 mk1 cortina that went from a 1100 escort mtr to a 2ltr cortina twin side draft animal with all of 120hp!!!.

Whats so differant was we had to drive the car it didnt drive us and we soon learnt what both limits were, now you can have 300hp stock car with every toy that makes you feel over conferdent and when it lets go theres no coming back from it.

I very much enjoy the performance scene and i love to see others doing the same, but total dickheads playing it up for the tv just dont get it as they are killing it for those who take such pride in their toy.

Maybe there should be a open season on these winners

I think Steve hit the nail on the head. I am pretty sure the only reason I am still alive/able to walk is because the fastest car i could afford was an NA Levin.

Nowadays you see the kiddies cruise round in old evo's and scooby's - too much car when you are learning about this new world of driving.

So true.
Im 18 and if i had an evo or wrx i would have killed myself by now.
So glad i got the FX. Cheap on gas, cheapish on insurance (when they don't cancel it) and just enough sportyness that i don't feel like a total nanna lol

I was a dumbarse. Spun my Mini because I didn't know how to correct oversteer. Luckily there was nobody coming the other way, as I looped it through the other lane.

Luck kept me alive through that one. So I joined a car club and learned to drive. Now I drive like a total nana on the road, because it is boring and dangerous on the road. I get my jollies racing slow cars as fast as I possibly can on closed venues on Sundays. As you'd expect from my sig here.

Also I've become a grumpy old man. Which automatically gives me the moral high ground on any given subject.

I remember when I was younger, I tried to 'drift' my '85 Sunny by using the handbrake and managed to spin round 180 and make myself look like a dick hahaha.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

My Adventures when i was younger:

- Munted a diamante on queen st (was looking at women and didnt notice stopped traffic ahead)
- "drifted" around the big corner by kelly tarltons (in the wet with rubbish rear tyres)
- Tried a handbrake turn in the middle of the night and messed it up (no damage, empty street, low speed)
- did a 540 getting onto the motorway at westgate (crap rear tyres in the wet)
- Hit a speed bump at 80, twice
- Drove 250km's with a hole in my oil pan
- Crashed into a giant supporting post in a parking building (blind spot)

And other than a bit of panel beating the AE92 Levin is still going today... awesome, awesome car... well underrated in my humble opinion. The handling is so forgiving.

Imagine being in one of the cars you can pickup for $8000 today...

But... What about those who are taught to me good drivers early?
I had my R34 (only a 2.5 NA, but still a good power) at my 16th birthday, then my turbo Forester when I was 18. But I did the rally school at 15 and racing since then... So don't stereotype, for all you know one of those 18 year olds in a evo 8 could of been go karting since he was 6.

What I don't get is how an 18 year old can afford a EVO 6, or is the bank lending it to him?

Isn't it weird how you can grab an Evo3 shape GSR for only double the price that you pay for a mint KE or KP these days?

Also, alot of parents don't know how fast an Evo 6 is & are quite willing to help their kids into a new, "safe" car. Plus, if you have a 25% deposit, your GE Money Genie will quite happily lend you the rest.

Theres very few that can say they have done that there for it stands for the rest, and if they have done as you have but persist in being a dick that comes under the maturity side of things nothing to do with driving skills.

Again its the right place right time, if you were responcable enough at that age to have toys like that then thats very commendable.
My daughters are not allowed a licence till they have done a season in a kart, they dont need to win anything just pickup skills they wouldnt on the road and hope they never have to use them.

My obesvations of them would prove otherwise. Stereo types get established because a majority of that particular demographic get observed displaying the same behaviour.

If I observed all these kids driving responsibly my stereotype would change. I have no doubt that there are youngsters out there with great driving skills, but the number of kids out there with A. Great Driving Skills etc AND B. The maturity to drive responsibility is in the minority, so the stereotype prevails.

All credit to you for being an awesome driver, but stereo types dont just pop up out of mid air... i think you are smart enough to know that there is an element of truth in them all, even if they are not 100% fair to the group they represent.

Most of the time it would be rich mummy and daddy.

But they must pay for gas and insurance aswell cause i sure couldn't afford gas and insurance for an evo or wrx

I blame alot of it on the parents who im sure do it just to get their kids out of their faces and realy dont want to know what there up to, alot of parents these days have problems relating to their kids which is sad thus they go astray.
Thats not always the case when you give a kid a high powered car and he "thinks" he can drive thats another problem.
Ive been racing for years and even at 47 i still havent learnt alot, but i guess your ability to make good judgment calls does improve with age.

Exactly.
If they were to limit what could be bought relative to age, it would be easier to police with a blanket rule rather than on a case by case basis.

Not intentionally opening up a can of worms... BUT!

Compulsory 3rd party insurance would do this id say.

Im all for that one, raise the age to 18 for a licence.
And you cant have anything more than a 1600 non multi valve car, no forced induction till you have a full licence and done an advanced driving coarse im sure others can add more to this.

Being proactive means you can do what you like without the dickheads screwing it up for you, except for one small thing.
