Bastards tried to steal my ST185

Postby blindnz » Mon Apr 26, 2010 9:56 pm

Apparently they are hard to steal, i came home 4pm ish to find my window partly down. some bastards pryed the passenger window down and broke into my car. they had a go to try and get the ignition barrel out but couldnt.
So instead the stole professional camera equipment out of the boot. That was only there because a friend couldnt carry all her stuff home..
So now i have a ST185 with a $&#$% passenger window and my mate is short a few grands camera gear.
All this happened in broad daylight on a reasonably busy street.

O 8O gutted

Hope it was insured. Had a friend in christchurch who was at the riccarton mall during the day and while he was in the mall someone smashed his window and stole about $2500 worth of camera gear and ipods. but he was insured and ended up with 7-8k worth of camera gear and only cost him $100 for his excess IIRC.

Some people are bastards. In the uni holidays just gone (First two weeks of april) my gf got a ride to hamilton with her brother. And left her big bag in the back of his civic. It got broken into that night. It looks like they had tried to pry open the boot and had no luck so then they found a brick and lobbed it through the drivers window. F**kin bastards. and all her clothes and stuff got nicked. She added it all up for insurance. About 2g of stuff.

I guess you have no alarm?
I wouldn't count on an insurance in the near future. They take forever to process it.

yeah turns out she wasnt insured and it seems like about 6k of camera gear :(

the main thing that concerns me is that it was all in the boot, so they cant have seen it.

Just tried to steal my car in broad daylight. The gear had only been in there less then 24 hours and was only there because her car broke down and we were waiting to tow it home

Maybe it was actually insured and it's an insurance scam?

Sucks though, but don't leave valuable shit in your car!

If it really was about 6k worth of camera gear, she'll be able to advise people in that circle about it?

6k worth of camera gear is more than just a body and lense....

I usually leave nothing in my cars either and this happens to be the first time ive been broken into.

Funniest thing, my mate had bought a bruce willis vinyl on trademe for $6 they stole that out of the letter box an left the packaging

So it was your car her gear got taken out of..

Iirc it isn't the first time she's had camera gear nicked.
Maybe this time she will get it insured.

Would have thought there would be a clause in the policy stating that if you are stupid enough to leave it in a car in a public car park its not covered

Hmm, I'm sure she got 2k worth of stuff nicked back when she was at tech.. Actually might have ben her mate now that I think about it.

She didn't wana insure it because it was going to cost her "Over $1000" per year to insure it :?

The lenses he had, he bought secondhand off trade me and the insurance company couldnt buy secondhand equipment to replace them, so they paid for brand new stuff

Just an update, she got the gear back, the thieves had sold it to a porn/pawn shop.
