Anyone using Repco axle stands?

Just don't get 6T ones

I got a couple of powerbuilt 6T ones thinking hell yeah, these will be sweet. They are... but you have to jack ya car to the moon :lol:

Fine if your car will be sitting for a while, but no fun for oil changes

Absolutely brilliant if you're working under the car though! Engine and gearbox removals/installations are so much easier!

And this is why I'll be buying my jack stands from an engineering place and not Supercheap or Repco... that is the second or third recall Repco have had in the last eighteen months or so, and as for SuperCheap, that one or two recall thing they had over the last few years was more like four to six.

At some point, their stands are going to fail and kill someone, and then all manner of crap will hit the fan.

Just jam a bit of wood inside the stand so if the rachet fails the wood holds it up :lol:

Back in my time at Repco we used to keep tabs on SC a fair bit... I was working while they opened up their NZ stores. I recall that they had the not so fantastic title of having the most product recalls over a 12 month period... Just tried googling it but couldn't find anything on it. IIRC it was 17 or so.

id be interested to hear what recalls that was? ive been working for repco for 6 years and i think this is the second recall thats gone out. and just to clarify none of these have actually failed they just had some go through testing that dident quite perform to what they they thought they should have (they did stand up to the classifications) but they recalled them all to be safe. and for those that did buy them in the 3-6 months we were selling them have (or should have) ended up with a set of $80-$120 worth of good quality stands (bonus)

Hmm I can't remember any other vehicle support type products being recalled in the 2 years I've worked at repco.

Really? I would have sworn I read a thread either here or on Bimmersport within the last few months, about axle stands or a trolley jack the Repco were recalling as they were not certain that it would support the stated weight... I'll have a look...

The ones in question at the moment are a recent addition. Before them the only ones we sold are all identical. Powerbuilt and Team Mechanix. I have a set of the team mechanix ones are they are perfectly up to the task.

Unfortunately someone made the mistake of deciding Repco should carry the crappy mechpro ones, but it's just as much their mistake as it is that of whoever is a tight wad for buying them in the first place.

Nobody's making you buy the cheapest ones, but at least the right thing is being done.

I too was thinking "this isn't the first....."
But yeah, seems to be the sameone and they are still advertising it. Must be quite a few sets still out there

I have some 3ton ones that I've used and was using them last night.

I was going to get back under my car today to try locate a coolant leak above my fuel tank in my SW20 but I will taking them back for a replacement set.

I didnt have them up on the ratchet locks but still not cool.

I've got similar ones to the powerbuilt (Torin) and a set of home-made that are 20+ years old. Neither have ever let me down.

Found those to be less stable than a decent set of normal locking stands imo. Didnt like being under a car supported by them.
