Most driving is in town though where engine temps get rather warm sitting in traffic etc, which would have a negative affect on having a pod.

Yes. Unless you've got an appropriately-tuned aftermarket ECU and other bits and pieces, you will always see a power drop if you ditch the factory plenum.
