one issue I can see with making an MR2 real quick is that with the relatively short wheelbase and high reward weight bias you may very well get too much weight transfer to the rear and struggle to keep the front down. Yes, wheelie bars help here but any load that's on the wheelie bars reduces the amount on the driven wheels which isn't much good if you're already struggling for grip due to not being able to fit massive tyres under the guards.

as far as gearboxes go, there probably aren't many transverse transaxle type boxes stronger than the E153 anyway, except perhaps something from a big stupid american FWD V8.

I think a good solution could be to run a longitudinal engine and transaxle (like the couple of Audi V8 mr2s use). I've actually seen this done on a 10s (IIRC) sw20 from somewhere Scandinavian, using an Audi 5cyl motor. This would help increase forward weight bias and free up some room to tamper with the rear suspension geometry for more tyre clearance.

Surely nothing with putting wheelie bars on a MR? ;) Might actually make a SW20 look a little less dainty too.

Like I said, wheelie bars hold the nose down but take load off the rear tyres. Ideally you want them doing as little as possible

I remember reading fast fours maybe 5 or so years ago and there was a street driven baby blue VW Golf that the guy had an engine in the front and another in the back. Both 2.8L turbos i think. Anyone else recall this? Think it was a guy in the UK

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

best motoring proved it with 5 back to back runs against numerous other japper cars , only beaten by the Supra .. Videos on youtube if you wanna hunt for it

My old one had no difficulty getting into the mid 13's - but it was designed for response , not top end or dragging ..

I know franks would have a good crack at a low 13, high 12 , and i know of at least 3 in australia with mid way mods that run high 12's ..

Its possible , just not as easy to do as in a common as F evo or WRX

Argh that comment really irks me about the "it was too hard to get into the 12s so he bought an evo"

My car is fairly stock in terms of power, I'd cry if I got a time over the mid 13's.

Gotta find some more weight to ditch..

Unfortunately its true man, if you want to go fast in the 1/4mile bang for buck you can do much better than the ST205, I mean don't get me wrong, I love the GT4's but evo's seem to have some supernatural ability to post quick 1/4mile times.
