$37,990.

No wonder its so badly made, they had to pay a Frenchman wages, his union and half of Europe's debt with the profit.

One of the exec's at my old work bought a new BMW 7 series back in 1998 or something for around $150k. His annual serviing costs in 2008 cost more than what the car was worth. So he bought a new one?!?

I try to work on the assumption of $1k depreciation per year. I think my GTT is going to be the first car I lose money on though so I've had a good run.

SW20 was $80k NZ new.

And they only came in non turbo.

Found an old aussie article that quoted $160,000 AUD.

Found some prices for my soarer:

Bare bones cloth interior was $150,000 AUD

Full option was $170,000AUD.

Picked mine up for $3,500 :lol:

there's no way a cars servicing cost will be THAT high, high class bmw's use long life engine oil, and non serviceable trans and diffs.
bmw will charge a minimum of $600 per normal service, $80 for wiper blades,
$100 for brake fluid but even at those steep prices it wont be as much as a car, and any faults outside of a service will be under warranty.

Not sure if there is warranty on a 10yo beemer :lol: I can imagine the servicing costing a bit though. My uncle got a BMW 750 5+ years ago for like 8k from a yard. Cost of fixing that was stupid :lol:

oops missed the ten years later part, even so the servicing wont be that bad,
my ones 8 years old and this year has cost under $1000. they sting in one big hit not lots of small ones, 8Liters of long life motor oil is $300 trade. but lasts twice as long.

What's a 10 yr old 7 series with 220kms on the clock worth? $5k tops?

Repairs & maintainance on a car like that through a dealership wouldn't be cheap.

My JZA 80 was probably one of the first imported it was bought in Japan by the original owner in 1994 for $90,000 NZD.

Having owned a number of BMWs I have had them all serviced at the local BMW dealership. The biggest bill I have ever had from regular servicing was $700 which included supplying & fitting a new pair of front rotors. Most servicing accounts were in the $3 ~ 400 range.

Compare that with my Lexus. Each regular service under the new car service plan was accompanied by an invoice to show the work done and the cost of that work had I been required to pay for it.
Seldom was it under $1000, usually $1200 ~ 1500 and iirc on one occasion over $2000.
Little wonder since coming out of the service plan I take to my own mechanic for regular services.

Mr Mainstream, it was a long time ago but I seem to remember that a Mk2 Escort 1300 Sport was about $4200 new in '77/78. This was before the 1600 Sport was available but for another $500 the local Ford dealership would replace the 1300 engine with a 1600.
We had some reasonably rampant inflation in those days and prices rose quite rapidly. I remember a mate of mine buying a 1600 Sport for his wife for about $8500 a few years later ... might have been early 80's.

Closer to the $100,000 for a Spirit R.

Pay $160,000 for an R35... Then rebuild it after 50,000kms...
