looking at doing a 4agte conversion on my 4age 20v bt, looking at using rt conrods and st pistons?could that combo handle 250-300kw or would it be best to forge rods or forge both?

what is rt.

st are you meaning silvertop..

answer = silvertop rods/4agze rods/late model redtop rods will be fine. 4agze pistons will also be fine. Everything else no.

Another 300kw turbo thread?

Im still satisfied with my 150kw 4ag, although more power in a front drive doesn't means its going to go faster.

Its gona go alot faster. 150kw hardly breaks wheel spin in my car. I find around 230-270kw on the track with Semi slicks is the max you could use on a corolla fwd with some supporting mods like good suspension and a proper LSD

Dont make the same mistake as everyone else and spend stupid amounts of money on chasing numbers.

Unless its a race car or the car has a specific purpose, you are better off building something driveable and reliable. It will spend less time in the garage and more time being driven which is the whole point and it wont break the bank.

150kw is a good figure to aim for in a light car.....

iv got a 170rwkw 4agte and while its fast its not amazing, by any stretch, woule def be awesome fun in a road car tho. But as you all say, a good brake/ suspension set up will make if "faster" on the track than another 50kw would.

bearing in mind if i decide to keep it after the upcoming season it will be getting more power lol

I agree..

LOL I remember when 200kw was the benchmark for a 4a turbo, now everyone seems to be chasing 300kw 8O

you need to ask yourself what size turbo you need to achieve that goal? youll have to go pretty big which means ALOT of lag. It wont be practical for the street, and how reliable will a 300kw 1600 be on the track? surely you cant expect to run that power and expect it to hold out?

Ive owned two 4agte Ae101s and had more fun in the levin which had a td05 and stock ecu. It was just a more practical and responsive setup.

so your saying I should save the money and use 4agze pistons and st or rt rods and a responsive turbo and spend the money i save on a good brake and suspension setup?

Pretty much. Silvertop rods and GZE pistons will take a hell of a hiding, and something like a TD05 will still get you in excess of 200hp at the wheels, while retaining nice driving manners.
LSD and good suspension/brakes are also quite choice to have.

what are you wanting to use the car for??

if its a drag can then obviously brakes and suspension arent really paramount, but track/race they are if you want to go fast for the whole lap not just the straights.

as the old saying goes " straights are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers"

hard to be a fast driver with cutties/kings etc and 1/2 worn shit ass brake pads and skummy fluid.

but im biased as i think drag racing is boring as hell haha

I had a standard 20V silvertop with GZE pistons, and 18psi on a Silvia T28,
and it was 205kw on 18psi, and reliable,
but it was not what I would consider a good street engine.

I thought that would be the perfect street motor?
Relatively small turbo and all.
I run the 2560R on a 4agze and it goes pretty good on 12psi.

Why is that? The power delivery, or the power output?

I know I enjoyed driving my blacktop AW11 over the 7agte one.
Low power, high revs + LSD.

Much better street car!

would i have to get another cut in the top of the 4agze pistons to accomidate the extra valve or could i just use the silvertop pistons instead? looking at using the car on the street with the odd track day nd drag race, am a courier so got a 2010 deisel hiace so really will only use car on weekend? Im thinking 550cc injectors from the 3sgte, arp bearings nd bolts, low comp head gasket, link ecu, nd prob a td05 20g? does that sound about ryt?

sounds right for a 200kw setup. honestly mate if you make 200kw at the wheels its gonna be a fun car.

if you want more than that its gonna cost a lot.

check thru my build thread that will give you some more of an idea

things to think about tho, suspension and bushes are important, large power starts to eat things like mounts, gearboxes, clutches (dont buy an exeddy one) cv joints/boots wear very fast. so yeah rather than trying to streach that extrqa 50/100 kw save some cash and get the other things right

My car seems great on the street, more low end power than a stock blacktop!

For what your wanting the car for, you def need good suspension and brakes. Standard brakes will not survive track days. If you want upgrade options you can talk to me.

The gze piston wont need a cut out, and you cant use ST pistons! The compression is far too high. The pistons have a raised dome thats why they have a cut out. The gze pistons has an inverted dome. The gze pistons are some what forged and can withstand a real beating. the ST ones most likely wont last long at all and your engine will be eating aluminium.

550cc injectors are really only good to around 250kw after that your really maxing them out and need to do other mods to get them to work at higher power levels.

Why would you need a low comp head gasket?? stick 4agze pistons in and that makes it low comp.

you need to do ALOT more research on the net, all the info is out there already.

The way the power came on so sudden and late,
but now that I think of it, the Turbo was a hybrid modified T28 with a large rear housing and bigger wheels etc.

Probably also coupled with the fact it was in a 800kg car maybe?
