GT4 gearbox in GTT Caldina??

Postby James Sen » Mon Sep 06, 2010 8:50 pm

A friend has a GTT caldina and the gearbox has craped out, Its hard to find another manuel gearbox for it and its expensive, so he was wondering if he could fit a gear box out of a ST185 gt4 celica, is there much difference between the to box's???

GT4 box is internally stronger than the GTT boxes are, hence the GTT boxes are so hard to find and worth good $$$. You may need to use the axles or at least the inner CVs from the GT4 gearbox

Wouldnt you need to make sure that the diff ratio in the GT4 box matches the rear differential in the Caldina?

Excuse me, but my "believe" is a bit substantiated unlike religious "believe".

When I say "believe" I mean is that I am certain to a degree but not 100%.

If you have facts proving otherwise, I "believe" they are same ratios.

And if you haven't got facts to prove they are then many would "believe" that there are differences between models ;)

All GT4 share same rear diff ratio. That is based around my personal experience from matching different bits together.

here are the facts:

ST246:

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_2003_T ... _4101.html

look at the part# 41201-80136 look at the FGR : 41:14

ST215 Auto:

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1999_T ... _4101.html

look at the part# 41201-80025 look at the FGR : 41:14

ST215 Manual and ST205:
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1998_T ... _4101.html
or
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1999_T ... _4101.html

look at the part# 41201-80069 look at the FGR : 41:14

The ST215 manual shares same part number with ST205 for the FGR.

Now you made me do all this homework, when I don't even need to swap diffs.
