Ping Ping 3sgte

Postby CelicaGT8 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 6:37 pm

Sorted out my engine missfire (rotor, cap, king lead)

I have turned up the boost on my st171 corona wagon, 3sgte with ct27 (pics of turbo upgrade in the link below) but now when i floor it with 13ish psi it pings like hell, scary stuff! (goes like hell too tho hehe)

Its running a standard st185 pump, but the fuel lines are smaller (using carby lines) could the pinging be due to lack of fuel? injectors too small?
Its timed to 10deg btdc and im running 95octane.

Check the fuel pressure and test the flow rate. The pumps don't flow as much as they get older - smaller lines won't help either. Would pay to get the injectors cleaned as well.

My MR2 was pinging its ass off on CT20b @ 16psi. Stock fuel pump was flowing 135 LPH (same a NA corolla).

New they flow 180LPH but from about 180,000 kms onwards chances are they are wearing out and slowing dying.

MSD pump off trade me. I have personally tested one of these pumps at 240LPH @ 60psi.....

Depends on the pressure as well. A stock 3sgte pump flows around 200lph at 35psi and supports up to 60psi fuel pressure (40psi base pressure + 20psi boost) before it falls flat on it's face and is only flowing around 150lph. At idle/base fuel pressure it should be flowing around 190lph.

Whinebro 255lph, cheap and effective.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
