4K-E

Postby AE86less » Fri Dec 17, 2010 5:35 pm

Just weighing up options for my KE70 that I've acquired.

My first thought was to have a go at finding a standard 3T for a bit more torque, but I'm enjoying the economy of the 4K. How much improvement does an EFI kit make to a 4K? I've never even seen a 4K-E in person.

Also, this may count as a wanted thread for any bits floating round :) It's not a thread to suggest 4ages or any other such swaps. Looking for simplicity and a degree of period correctness.

I had a chat to Quentin from Club-K when he brought his 4K-E KP60 to the drags, he said fuel economy is massively improved over the carbed version, you get about the same amount of power.

Definitely check out Club-K if you want to know more, good luck finding EFI stuff

I think I can get a almost complete EFI set for a 4K?

Would be worth a bit though.

Let me know if your keen and i'll find out for sure.

My 4K-U smoked my flatmates old 4K-E and outdid it on gas, both in KP61 Starlets.

So you have definitely ruled out a 4AGE. You could just chuck an old Big Port in there.

imo, 4k-e because you "felt like it" Would need some tweaking to make it worth while I think.
Along the lines of some bigger injectors (Iirc early Laser ones fit) and maybe an older Link.
In stock form power is not its forte... But will start better in winter

But seeing as you have a KE70, I say go the 3T. Would make it a much nicer car to drive. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if its cheaper to run. K motors are not economical at all. Unless you compare them to other things from the 70's.

Sweet. Cheers for the input guys. 3T sounds like a better plan.

Lol, I'd beg to differ regarding K economy.. I bought a starlet with a 2K once, had a full tank when I bought it, drove it pretty much daily and didn't need to fill it for a month.. then again, I was a cheap ass and nana'd it everywhere. I think you'll find that they're not that economical when you're thrashing them everywhere trying to keep up with bigger, faster cars.

OP, considered a 2TG? They're period, still reasonably quick and parts are still quite plentiful and reasonable to buy. You can get reasonable power out of them as well.

Cost vs benefit, you'll be a long time paying for the EFI setup. Just get side drafts, fcuk economy and enjoy the noise :D
