Oil Pressure Sender thread change?

Postby XSVWGN » Tue Dec 28, 2010 1:07 pm

hey i have just got some new gauges and my oil pressure sender doesnt fit into my block. The Thread is still the same but the one for my gauge is bigger then the standard one.

Do i have to buy a replacemtn sender with the right size or do can i jst remove the thread off the sender and replace it with one that fits?

that make sence?

i think you'll find that your block has 1/8bspt which is 26Threads per inch whereas the sender is 1/8npt which is 27 threads per inch and wont screw in

you cant take the thread off the sender and as far as im aware you cant get npt to bspt adaptors. you could run a bspt die over the thread on the sender to change it, or conversly run a npt tap into the block(although i wouldnt reccomend that)

Any engineer should be able to rethread it for you

i wouldnt re thread it
it will be crap/weak metal and will just fold under the pressure of the die

just use one of these and be done with it

I wouldn't put it into the block at all.

I would make a flixible line from the block where the sender should be to the sender and mount it on th body.

have done that in the past with bradied line running out of the oil pressure sender hole and mounted it on the strut tower

also re my other post
those mounting blocks have a tendency on leaking

You can run a NPT tap through. I've done it of 5 engines already and it works fine with no leaks.
I haven't had a sender break off the block either. The only time they break off is if you use those brass fittings to make a T to bring the oil feed line off that port as well.

I have also re tapped the block many times to suit npt fittings,
Were are you taking oil feed for turbo from?
Same place?
Ive also used bsp steel T pieces in the past and re tapped one side to suit npt

When re tapping the block I put plenty of grease on the tap so the filings stick to it, rather than staying in the block,
The thread change is so small there isn't much in the way of filings or swarf anyway

If you wanted to save some money, I have used a standard toyota rubber brake hose in the past which screws into the block perfect and then you can remote fit your sender from there, not as bling as a made one but does the same thing :D

Oil feed for turbo comes from relocator block. Ok well maybe i will just retap the block then... not a huge issue really
