Do i have to buy a replacemtn sender with the right size or do can i jst remove the thread off the sender and replace it with one that fits?

Ive also used bsp steel T pieces in the past and re tapped one side to suit npt
When re tapping the block I put plenty of grease on the tap so the filings stick to it, rather than staying in the block,
The thread change is so small there isn't much in the way of filings or swarf anyway
