You could also have a very sorry fuel pump and fuel filter
Sorry but no definate answers but maybe something to check.
I am pretty sure that if you take the cover off your ecu all the plug codes are there and the injector signal to the ECU should be easy to find. Labelled INJ. Just put a test light on it and turn it over. It should blink nice and steady and consistent.
There is also a little led things you can plug in to your individual plugs at the injectors to check if they are firing consistently too.

edit: Also sometimes when initially cranking, it tries to fire against the starter, but only at the start
You get that when ignition timing is too far advanced.

That sounds like analogue ECU.
If it backfires in the intake and pushes against starter it is most likely timing issue (too far advanced), or position signal too noisy (are you running a link?).
tsoob wrote:sounds like timing to me.. is the base timing in the ecu setup right? I remember setting up my new computer was a real prick to get right
tsoob wrote:yep cas wiring was also a $&#$%, the signal had 2 be reveresed or something silly like that, as in the ecu was reading it backwards.

Maybe your computer has got spiked?
Did you save a backup to reload it with?

How so?

Just thought if the battery was on its way out it might be giving ya ecu grief, which then gives you grief .
