I know its one of the most simple pieces of maintenance that I always do on my old cars, but....
On my new AS200 Altezza/IS200 it took me long enough to find the damn oil filter, let alone attempt to get at it (its under the intake manifold)
which means I either need to put it on a lift of some sort, or hydraulic jack and axle stands (of which I have neither), is there anyone in East Auckland that has a lift/hydraulic jack/axle stands that I could borrow for 20mins? its such a quick job, yet they put the filter in the most inaccessible place on the block.

Else, whats an oil/filter change worth at a half decent workshop....

Have you seen where the filter is nick??? I wouldnt want to give you such a shitty job, seriously, the toyota engineers must have been smoking some really funky crack when they decided to put it there.

Could be time for an epic service though, I need those front tyres done as well haha

Drive it up on a couple of blocks or just up on one side, have it leaning towards the drain plug. Chock the wheels.
SHAKE THE SHIT OUT OF IT. If it don't fall it ain't going to.
Drain it. Let it cool down so you can get to the filter without getting burned.
Use a good filter wrench. There's got to be one that will access & grip well.
If the new filter has the rubber flap/anti-drainback, pre-fill it a bit or crank without the EFI fuse to save the bearings from a dry startup.

Also, changing the filter for every oil change or even every 2nd time isn't a necessity.

It'll probably be easier to get to it when it's on a hoist.
Also changing an oil filter is easy, why wouldn't you do it every oil change?

The filter on my GF's maz is under the air intake on the back of the engine. The only way to get at it with a decent grip is from under the car, with an arm either side of the exhaust.

I loosen the filter when the car is cold until the face is only just making contact. Then run it down to the shops and back, put some engine flush in it and it's pretty easy to get it off then.

If it's really, really difficult then you could look at a relocation kit for $300-ish?

gen2 3sge had the oil filter under the mani as well. Pay tsoob to chuck in a relocation kit at the same time as the oil/filter change and you'll be gravy

ALOT of cars have them under the intake manifold by the fire wall side.

Not hard to get to at all. But yes you do need a hoist or jack the front up on axle stands.
