Jamie, after many many enquiry's you finally sound the sort of person who wants this car because of the parts on it and its condition and can appreciate it for what it is! Thank goodness! No one else could give a stuff about the parts so it doesn't appeal and they can't appreciate it or its value. I'm glad you emailed me as I was about to smash my head brick wall trying to deal with the amount of clowns out there who either think $0 or near offer means free or that it's stock standard. It's far from Standard but everything is factory fitted after Toyota at TRD. This is like a STI version one wrx where they striped a stock one down including the motor and filled it with good stuff. It's 22 years old so what is inside the motor and gearbox isn't known but you don't rebuild brand new engines and gearboxes for no reason so don't make and offer based on that, just count it as a bonus, also factor in repainting the bumper and eyelids $500 should be plenty to fix anything you aren't happy with as it is an old car and although really really mint it is not quite showroom new so i want you to be happy with it.

Here's the list. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards

TIm

ENGINE & GEAR BOX

ENGINE
Full in house prepped TRD engine, specs are unknown because I havent thought of cool names to make up yet, the block/bottom end received most the attention. I sprayed heaps of degreaser on it

*Stock Lightened flywheel, half dead Exedy heavy duty clutch, and pressure plate kit

GEAR BOX
Same story in house prepped, specs are standard other than the obvious presence of a standard half worn LSD that used to be very vicious, gears give off that nice sound you would expect from worn bearings .

Others
*Cut down stock shifter kit (50% reduced thread )
*Magoos Muffler Exhaust system with twin tips
*flogged out factory S/C Bypass valve
*Painted S/C Pulley kit
Pod filter in boot is bolt on aftermarket set up, from SCA.

The Ecu has had a recalibration of the fuel injection and parameters but it is unknown to what extent but it runs beautifully like a stock ECU should!, testament to its clean running just look inside the exhaust tips! This sounds really convincing doesnt it?

SUPENSION & CHASSIS:

*KYB – WORN OUT 4 WAY ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS
1 (jelly luxobarge spec) up to 4 (nearly firm)

*TRD UPRATED/CUT SPRINGS
(For looks, you can still buy TRD lowering ones however)

*TRD FRONT SWAY BAR AND BUSH KIT
*TRD REAR SWAY BAR AND BUSH KIT
(These kits also have special linkages that mount them to the shocks bodies like the factory ones, but painted)

*TRD HARDENED RUBBER BUSHING KIT THROUGHOUT
(30% Stiffer than stock bushes, suitable for fast road use and won’t crack the chassis like other materials used in non TRD aftermarket kits. Of course 20 years down the track these are perished to hell, but it sounds cool right!)

*TRD ENGINE AND GEARBOX MOUNTS
(Again around 30% stiffer and far stronger when new and unflogged)

Steering rack unconfirmed, may be quick rack, need to compare next to another but is far more positive than previous Aw11s I had. Could be entirely dreaming here

BODY

*TRD purple smoked rear window monsoon with TRD decals and matching red graphics to match body colour - actually genuine!

*The Front lip is either a TRD 1 off or limited production run or another Japanese company it cannot be confirmed whose. But actually Aerotech. The front lip was changed in Japan. The reason for this was the car was lifting too much at high speeds so this was made/used to try fix it.

TRD parts worn out or removed for compliance

*TRD braided brake lines (still avail from TRD)
*TRD brake pads (stock pads now sit in the car) (still avail from TRD)
*TRD air filter (still avail from TRD) (box has a K&N now but currently Pod filter kit is fitted for that in cabin S/C sound… amazing!!)
* None of these parts are even in my possession anymore, but they used to be on the car, that still adds value!

Wheels

The car is also fitted with Nearly new 15x8 +25 OG Work replica wheels with 195/45R15 tires all done less than 1000kms that finish the look of nicely and keep everything period style.

Hey, I think my car has all these cool bits, but I can't confirm any of them. So yeah, yours for $20k.

it doesnt actually have a enough bits of real importance to make it overly special.

definitely doesnt have enough on it to be a TRD special edition or anything like that, and who cares what parts it USED to have on it...

imo the only thing it really has going for it is that it is so tidy. does anyone know if it is original paint? its a cool colour

If anything, if the list is correct and we can assume uprated engine and gearbox componentry, it actually has more parts than anything sold as a 'TRD Special', most of which were simply standard cars adorned with cosmetic bits and perhaps an LSD.

In reality, I don't recall there ever being a TRD Special edition AW11. But if I read it correctly he's claiming it to be a customer car taken from the factory before delivery and kitted out at a TRD (Technocraft) depot. This is exactly how they did things and it wasn't uncommon for some customers to order the entire catalogue of bits. Can't say that's what this car is, but that appears to be what he's claiming and it's very possible.

Toyota actually produced a low grade AW11 with 3A engine which weighed in 150kg lighter than the regular version. Looking at the interior trim I can't help wondering if this is not the basis of this car.

Without dragging out old TRD catalogues, I don't recall TRD producing a short shifter or an exhaust for AW11.

I don't see that car, at 86km's, worth any more than others have stated. In fact if it does contain all of the parts as claimed it's probably worth more in bits.

It looks nice ... but as you're all saying, without specs and proof, it's "merely" a very nice looking MR2 - rather than something unique.

Oh he has replied!

I'm sorry but I don't have the paperwork that you are after, The first NZ owner who lived in Japan bought this car under some extremely strick negotiations and had it imported through a friend and any paperwork that was given that could be supporting evidence or used to find deeper evidence is long gone in the early 90s as it was never foreseeable that these cars would become collectible so things like that wern't worried about. It was bought to be enjoyed. Since his passing I took full ownership of the car and never had a doubt of its history knowing his affiliation with Trd but understanding the huge price jump this car would have went to great length's and cost's to to obtain paperwork from Toyota and TRD to authenticate this car. They failed to comment on it's history and I believe it is because of the legal implications behind a test car been in public hands that is behind this. The last owner had always made me aware of this though. I am only selling this car as a collectors condition "customer modified car" where a wealthy first owner order it in base trim and had sports parts fitted afterwards. You can still do this today and any S/c with out Electrics and A/C had to be ordered as they were highly speced. I'm happy to explain the history behind this car but I don't believe it will satisfy your requirements if you want to look at this as just a nice example with TRD parts fitted off the showroom floor then it will be something that will satisfy you and give great enjoyment to own. I think you want a stock Aw11 in origonal condition. Sadly what ever Aw11 you get you have to get the best you can and then throw a whole lot of money at it to get it to what you want.

The factory gearknob is missing another is installed, a cover off the drivers side seatbelt also, The clear indicators were fitted in NZ very early on and a pod filter is in the boot but but all the factory airbox is with the car. The factory airbox now has a K&N filter as the TRD 1 was removed for compliance (MAF thing) I think. Brake pads also for compliance and factory's installed. You can still obtain all those parts. Once again it was never foreseeable this car would be valuable in the future and was just enjoyed. If you want a stock Aw11 you will need to shell this and put all factory parts in everywhere so I am sorry I just can't see this satisfying you. I won't go any further as I have to type out all the TRD stuff as the word file isn't working and I don't know how to make it work. If these things arent worrying then we can go further but I don' t think this is going to be what you are after.

So yeah. Pretty clear that chances are it's just a nice clean AW11 that has been looked after and tweaked in some areas.

The worst part is that he probably believes all of it. I think ultimately what it boils down to is that the previous owner spun him the same magical TRD fairytale story that he got from the car dealer when it came into the country in the 90's. What the hell does "fully in-house prepped" mean if you don't have any receipts or other evidence to say what was done?

Some people believe anything said to them.

Also, some people really do just make up stuff. I had one guy whose story got a bit carried away, and eventually he had to back down once he claimed his dad had owned a RB26 powered Skyline ... at a date that was before the RB26 existed ... ah, yeah Dr Who.

I don't think you should be too harsh on the guy. He could very well have something along the lines that he describes. He just cannot verify it, which is of no use to a buyer and will limit his chances of realising his expectation.
But unless you know otherwise I don't think we are in a position to ridicule him. The story is plausable.

I'd like to know who the NZ'er with the special association with TRD was.

It may sound harsh, but claiming rumour as fact is an invitation to ridicule. There may well be some merit to the story, but he really ought to say "The previous owner told me..." or " I've been lead to believe...". In my opinion it's no better than the "fully worked 4k" ads that used to litter the buy sell and exchange. As a buyer you have to just assume that any claim made without proof is bullshit.

*TRD ENGINE AND GEARBOX MOUNTS
(Again around 30% stiffer and far stronger)

Pardon my ignorance - how is this a good thing? Wouldn't it stress the frame, gearbox, cause vibration etc?
