ive redone my sump 3 times no to no avail.

the last time i did i took my time and did everything i knew to stop it.

*lightly sanded all surfaces
*torqued bolts and nuts to spec torque
*hammered surfaces of sump and baffle plate flat.
*used generous amounts of sealant.

can anyone see anything wrong with what im doing, or something im missing?

if not i think the issue may be do with the baffle plate being not flat, what is the purpose of this? -does it prevent oil surge onto the crank?

would it be unwise to remove it?

it seems like just having a sump and block would make things alot easier.

Yes, its a windage tray.

can you see exactly where it's leaking? not actually another leak it is?
Is it maybe cracked?

3 points, on all sides around the deeper pick up end. dont think its cracked thinks it must just be out of shape...

whats the best way to get it all square again?

Try a big sheet of sand paper, maybe glue it to a plank.
put the sump on it and sand away for a little.
Then take a look, should expose high points so you can see whats up. I would have thought though that any gap not able to be filled with a good sealant (using a good one?) would be easy to spot by eye.

just as long as you are sure it's not the front crank seal or anything leaking down on to it.

I have the same problem its a nightmare. To be fair my sump probably wasnt that flat tho. Seems finicky to get right...

What are you using to seal it?

TGP stuff or something else?

Are you leaving the silicone as a bead or smearing it out with your finger?
I always find it best to leaveit as a bead, and to much siliconis a bad idea, it oozes out into the sump, and gets jammed against the suction strainer, if not sucked thru the oil pump

As said above, use a decent sealer. The best I've come across so far is Nissan stuff to be honest

We need to do a test between that Nissan stuff, 3 Bond and the Toyota stuff!
At Toyota we used to sell it to other dealers! And where I am now, they all swear by 3 Bond

Ha yeah it's not cheap! We use alot of Wurth's black sealant - about $20-$30 a tube and does the job

Another vote for 3 bond. Amazing stuff.
The price certainly teaches you to squeeze from the bottom of the tube.

Even though it seems to be easier to diagnose a leaking sump then to seal it, I think the opposite is true.

I removed my sump twice to fix my leaks. one leak was slowly squirting oil onto the heat wrap of the dump pipe making a big smokey mess. I actually bent the edges up in certain areas and had a good bead of gasket goo and now it works a treat as everything is flat!!!

99%its the sump. the engine is brand new(new seals everywhere) less than 1400kms

and the oil isnt above the sump.

just using a silicone sealant from repco. - cant remember brand or name.

maybe ill try the 3 bond.

good idea revhead .

although ud think if it was 1-2mm out that the sealant would plug that gap- maybe its just the pressure

and yes leaving it as a bead.

im putting a bead around windage tray and sump.

If there is excessive pressure in the sump, it means your PCV system does not work or there is too much blow by.
