Since then i do not support putting HIDs in older cars. Yeah that would explain my evo 6...beam pattern was normal and never glared etc.

So i'm guessing you have been followed and driven towards your evo at night to confirm this? I just would have thought a headlight reflector would be designed for one type of bulb, and wouldn't suit anything else. Age of car shouldn't matter. Guess it doesn't really matter since unless you replace the whole unit its illegal. New or old car.

Actually, the best thing you can do is start with a wiring upgrade running relays straight off the battery. Will make a noticable difference to 90% of cars on the road, particularly older ones.

This! I rewired the lights in my ST165, and they went up in brightness. Funny thing to see is people put 70W into lights where 55W was originally and it shines dimmer and redder because wiring can't handle it.

Out of interest is it just a case of putting the relays right near the lights and wiring it inline from the factory feed and running the new feed from battery? I'm no sparky mmmk

The best halogen replacement bulbs I've come across is the Philips (BlueVision is it?? I think 4000K) ones at Repco. They are expensive yes, they aren't all that white, but alot less yellow than stock and I think just a tad clearer vision. But - They don't blow out and leave shards through your housing like the chinese ones do, they run at stock wattage and are reliable for years.

My relays are mounted next to battery (front of engine bay) with power feed direct off battery, better earth for lights and triggered from standard headlight plug. Was an aftermarket kit that came in a car I bought.

Yes i have. Also kneeled down facing car it didnt glare. I am mates with the new owner.. he told me he put another HID kit on, due to the bulb blowing on old one. He then went and passed another cert.

Just to update thread, found one of my headlights had blown this morning so replaced 100/90W "white" bulbs with Narva Plus 50's (60/55W). Can actually see now, this is without any wiring upgrades in this car, definitely recommended.
