And more on the original topic, Colliers in Levin told me they can do billet cranks if you so wish, not cheap though! I imagine Precision Engineering in Auckland could also do them (They do quad rotor eccentric shafts)

Was a couple of years ago I spoke to him about it (was for some sort of Fiat race car from memory) but was in the vicinity of $7k 8O

If you are really interested in a custom crank I would give Bob Denson of Denco Engineering a ring.

I can't personally recommend his work as I have never used it, Friends have recommended him though. If his pre 65 Anglia is anything to go by he is pretty good

Denco pistons are heavy as all hell if thats any indication

forged crank = grain flows the correct way everywherre
Billet crank = grain flows correct way through journals but not through the throws/couterweights
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

Denco cranks are pretty cool, very nice work, we have ground a few at work before, Id say there rather pricey though, pretty sure there made of 4340 high tensile billet from memory but you would be best to ring him and have a yarn, Im guessing there not cheap as there hand made and one off's though

What everyone is getting confused about is induction hardened or nitrided cast steel cranks from factory

If you do a google image search cast steel and forged steel crankshafts you end up at the scat website and yes, there is a obvious difference

Is that a wide forging mark on that middle one? Hard to tell from those pics. One on the right and been fully machined if it's forged.
At a glance (can't be sure from net pics) I'd have said those are Cast iron, forged then cast steel + machined or billet. Whichever it is I'd guess that it's had quite a bit more machining than the other 2
