oil pressure gauge

Postby deaf_rattle » Sun Jul 10, 2011 5:05 pm

Having problems with my oil pressre gauge (autogauge electrical)

there are two terminals on the sender s sendor, w/l warning light

If you pull the terminal off the S the gauge goes to max, with the terminal on S the gauge will go to 10psi even with the car not running.

Pretty sure its earthed properly, but im about to look into that.
Would this be a faulty sender, or more likely to be faulty wiring?

Cheers

I had a similar problem - one day the oil pressure started showing max pressure without the engine even running. Replaced the sensor and it was fine.

Test it on a bench maby, or if you have another sensor swap it.

How does one go about testing it, im assuming the gauge is ok, that its probably the sensor or wiring from sensor to gauge.
Id rather not buy a sensor to find out that it still gives the same problem. Id rather buy another gauge/sensor unit

Hard to test, they generally go over a range of ohms (thermistor?), and finding the info would be tricky
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Mine was running about half a bar with the ignition on but engine off. I ran separate earth to the battery and to the gauge and it fixed the problem.
