NGK BCR8ES sparkplug discontinued? (4AGTE)

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:11 am

I run these sparkplugs in my 4AGTE because the standard 4agZe plug (BCP6ES from memory) caused misfiring with the higher boost.

Problem is the car has been sitting for 2 years so the last time I bought the plugs was at least 3 years ago and now I can't find them anywhere.

I've tried Repco who said they have none in the country.
Supercheap had none.
The local motorsport supplier I usually use has tried everyone they can but can't find any in the country. Strangely no one has been able to confirm if the plug was discontinued or if there is a replacement/equivalent sparkplug available.

I thought it would just be a case of cross referencing in a catalogue but so far I've got no answer.

I'm guessing its almost certain that it is discontinued but I'm surprised how hard it has been to get any kind of answer from any supplier.

Has anyone else used this sparkplug and have any suggestions?

Interesting. I didnt know there are none.
Anyhow I tried using the V series plugs but found out they actually fouled up more easily.

I run champion plugs for racing and find them to be awesome.
I was running a really cold plug like a 10 range. Prob a bit of an over kill but they never seemed to foul up even on the road.

You can get them in the 8 range. Called a C61CX

Champion plugs to NGK heat range.
C63C - 7 heat range
C61CX - 8 heat range
C59CX (or C61) - 9 heat range
C57CX (or C59) - 10 heat range
C55C - 11 heat range

I got the NGK 8's I run in the starlet from Shane(looseunit) at supercheap in porirua , he had to order them in and I can't remember the number atm but they were very reasonably priced . I will look up the number as I want to get some more soon and let you know.

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

I've been told to run NGK BKR7E plugs in my 4agte.

They kept fouling up though so changed to BKR6E I think...

thought about cross referencing to a platinum or an iridium plug?
Sure they're a $&#$% load more expensive, but they last 80k and they work better on med to high boost applications than standard plugs.
The GT4 is to Celicas what the GTR is to skylines.

Find some BCPR8ES or BCPR8EY plugs? Gotta be something in their range that does what you want

And for reference...

There is a replacement for the BCR8ES's it starts with R.
Comes in the yellow box and still cheap.

It's like R2516-8 or something.
It crossed over for me when I still worked at repco and needed a new set of BCR's for the 7agte.

Get some Denso Q20P-U from Marky Mark? Denso coppers through him were less than half the price of NGK copper equivalents sourced from Repco/SC last time I checked.
