AE82 NZ GT Fuseable link - replacement?

Has anyone had to replace the fuseable links located by the +ve battery lead?

Somehow one of mine has popped, and looking at it, I can't work out how to get into the little fuse box to unbolt the connection.

Same as setup in fxgt's of the same era I imagine.

My old man has the car at the moment, so not sure if something happened when he put battery in/started it etc, whatever underlying issue causing the melt will be found in due course, but I need to get it running again.

Also - any idea where to source a replacement, are these types of fuseable links a 'usually stocked' item?

Which type is it, the female plug type, male or the L type

Ah, good question, will have to take a look. I have a spare loom somewhere so may just pillage that for now (recycling fuses is a bit naff though lol)

Need to open the sides of the case there in and then undo the two 10mm bolt that holds them in

I am 99% it was the 80A that went, and according to toyodiy its a B-type - the picture they have is of a Male fuseable link...fiddly why Brad?

cause they are a pain in the ass to pull apart, with not much slack in the loom to let you move it as far as you might like

It appears that it's the 80A link that has popped, do the links protect different circuits? Just wondering why the 80 would pop but the other two (60 and something else less than 80) visually appear sweet?

usually the largest rated one is for the alternator circuit.

jump started it backwards?

That is what causes about 90% of the blown main alternator fuses that we see at work.

Or have had the alternator off?

No alternator off - though it was causing issues prior to me acquiring car. I have a spare I can put on, but it has been trouble free lately.

I have had a slow drain on the battery so have been detaching one lead when I haven't been using it and just storing it at my olds.

Car wasn't in a position to be jumped, but the old man could have hooked the battery up the wrong way when he wanted to move it. He didn't mention it though. Will hit him up, god knows I've done it before lol (on a parts car - I just soldered the link back up 8O :oops: )
