Ma70 control arm bushes?

Postby iamawesome » Mon Oct 03, 2011 5:25 pm

Failed a wof on worn control arm bushings and can't find any so I went to Toyota and they want to charge 140+gst each and there's only one in the country. $&#$% that. Does anyone know of a bush from something else that will fit?

Are they plain bushes or spherical types? You can get one made up out of nolathane at Autolign or similar place.

Round could be both types.
The spherical bush will have rubber boots (similar to ball joints) instead of solid rubber. Best price on spherical (I believe) is to get genuine.

As for autolign: http://www.autolign.co.nz/

Presuming you're talking about the inner control arm bushings (on upper or lower control arm?)

Try Suprasport in the states, or Driftmotion. Pretty sure both places do urethane replacements. Could always drop into Racelign (Autolign, Mt Wellington) or your local S.A.S. store to suss out getting it done for you at a local workshop.

Where the lower control arm bolts to the hub is just a removable ball joint that connects with three bolts to the lower control arm...

So its not the bushings but play in the balljoint they failed you on?

From memory they were only $60 each new from Toyota when I replaced mine (back in medieval times when my car actually went).

It's hard to tell what you're talking about... but if it's the one i'm thinking of, just take it to a parts store and say 'Give me one like this.' Oh ah... take it out of the car first...

From memory they call them rose bush bushings? *shrug* All wonderful shapes and sizes can be found. Edit: oh, it just came to me, I used one from a Holden or some such thing. Again, nfi, fitted, worked, beauty.

Pretty easy, cost me about 40 buck.

Why oh why didnt they make the JZA80 with removable BJ's? Replacing the entire LCA or UCA just because of one worn bush is painful, and very expensive.

I'll have to locate my laptop and upload a pic, dam iPhone. I took the car down to north shore Toyota and they said it's 140+ each. How the $&#$% can they justify that :/ it's like the don't want anyone to buy shit from them

North Shore Toyota are pretty good, Nick and Peter are wicked to deal with and look after their customers... Presuming you just wanted to buy the part and that price doesn't include them installing it also?

I think some clarity around exactly what part you need would go a long way to finding out the real story.
