if i could afford a pratt and whitney or rollys royce turbine from a 747 i would buy one... years and years ago now i was offered a j85 from a f4.... i turned it down...
The Aluxary power unit of a 747 needs to be big to cope in case turbine shut down.. mine is just a light weight turbine for hobbiest use.
normally it tskes between 2 and 4 years to get a kit aircraft into the air. i think maybe 18 months or so give or take a few years....

68cm x 28cm for the unit. that does not include the tail pipe or turboprop gearbox (which weights more then the jet engine!!!)
kiwi4agze wrote:Nah there is crap all out there for the P-40, most of them stay to main streem planes. If i can get my hands on the plans, i will mke it out of alloy.

Yeah, most are pretty bland.. I had considered something small like a tin Corby Starlet, but now you've got me looking through super STOL aircraft, so many options out there! Good decision using alloy, I'm not a huge fan of wood either.. gotta be able to put my trade cert in structures to good use! lol.
Also, found a tin 2-seater 3/4 scale p40.. looks much nicer than most other kits, not much info on it though.. I think your little turbine would fit quite nicely in the front!

kiwi4agze wrote:Well with the new engine the top speed would be higher then the original....
258hp vs 400hp.. maybe need a new plane design
kiwi4agze wrote:I worked it out, with the turbine on full power take off run would be 17m!!!!
A f-16 needs atake off run of 1140m with afterburner
If i increase wing area and flaps, i could get her off under 15m!!!!
Should I go with it?? its very tempting...
kiwi4agze wrote:RS13.. I need an ample supply of aircraft grade tubing, you can hook a white brother up?
kiwi4agze wrote:Yeah for your play station, xbox generation yeah.
