I do. I used to have one.

I haven't driven anything that comes close to what that thing could do on a good twisty bit of road.

altezza was supposed to be the same thing but they $&#$% it up royally, this will be no different

My guess is that it will be priced high enough that there *might* be maybe one, or perhaps two buyers of this car from the entire Toyspeed population.

I am assuming that it's a Subaru derived n/a flat four. I wonder if this will mean that no power, high fuel consumption, leaking cam cover gaskets, oil surge, and bhg will be on people's minds once the new car warranty runs out.

Could it be cool? Definitely.

Will it be cool? I'll definitely be watching the enthusiast reviews once it's actually for sale 8)

If it's a good car then maybe in five years or so after production begins we might see a few of them being used in motorsport at club level.

I think you are stuck in the 90's with your opinion of subaru engines

Come on Warwick, we know EVERYTHING rear wheel drive is just a thinly disguised race car (even Mitsi L300 vans), and EVERYTHING front drive is just a boring shopping basket that no REAL driver would ever own. Or is that just something the flat peak wearers say? :lol:

The Altezza was never supposed to be this... it was designed to compete against the 3 series etc

thaphatty, I don't see how you can see luxury sports sedan when you look at the FT86 - this thing has had a shit load of money invested and somehow they managed to get the project past the investors despite the fact that Toyota knows it may not make much money producing such a car. They want to make a sports car with this, not something halfway sporty with a touch of leather.

For all those bagging this because of no factory turbo. I am sure since the car features the same mounting points as the Subaru variant that there will be a stock Suby motor (older or newer) that should bolt in. I'm Just saying...

Also, the test mule ran in at third place in the recent Nürburgring Nordschleife, and while it was almost beaten by 1min against the Civic Type R, it is still promising when you consider that there is almost no data on the mule to produce a race ready setup. Also, check out the 15sec difference against the S2000 :lol: .. that's not bad if you ask me. The S2000 motor is tight, so Toyota must be doing something right :D

I have already negotiated this as a future purchase with the misses.. no way I'm missing this thing. What other options have you got for an affordable, modern, tail happy RWD in today's auto market?

I suppose it all depends on the price.

NZ new MX-5 starts @ NZ$51,100 that's soft top and from what i understand doesn't feature a turbo (similar to the 2.0lt offered in the Mazda 3) - check it out at their site below.

If the FT86 comes in below that ill be more than happy. Plus it has the extra seats (could come in handy for track day luggage :wink: ).

not a lot avaiable new in that segment in NZ for the same money.

As long as they dont put the Hyundai Genesis onto the NZ market they should sell a few of these things.

I've had 2 gen 1 SW20s, currently one thats really crap and on the worst tires known to man.

Keeping this in mind, I have never driven anything so unpredictably complete sideways oversteery in the wet as a mates RX8.

(Had aftermarket 18" wheels and tires though, so not entirely stock in fairness)

Seemed reasonable on a bash around Scenic drive, but no way it comes near a half decent MR2.

I quite like the Genesis. Up to now it's only been produced LHD though. And the fact you could get V6 NA or 4banger turbo
