What's it worth? My Project.

Hi All,

Hoping for some honest feedback.

Gotta sell teh mr2, no time to drive it as I now have my first child and we are planning on more, its rediculous being a 4 car family when only 2 of us can drive

So i'd like to know what you think is a reasonable/realistic asking price for this car in its current state which i will list below.

1990 MR2GT (Gen 1)
Body has 175,000k's on it

- Targa top seals replaced with brand new seals from toyota 200k's agos, cabin no longer leaks and rust caused by previous leaks has been cured.
- Dashboard, Door cards and Seat's replaced with from another mr2 as they were a bit tatty
- TRD Quick Shifter
- Gen3 Mr2 Door Sill Plates new from toyota (Bling) - Not Fitted
- TRD Sway bars (only rear fitted)
- TRD Strut Tower Bars front and back
- Nolathane busing kit (only rear fitted)
- Mak 17" Mags, 215 wide on front 235 wide on the rear. All tyres good quality & in good nick, 1 tyre brand new
- Ohlins Suspension with adjustable rebound
- 1997 3sgte & lsd box 140,000k's transplanted in, cambelt required in 50,000k's
- CT20b WRC Turbo - 200km's since it had a $900 rebuild
- Sparco Intercooler
- Custom Made Cold air box - home job but it works well
- K&N Pod Filter in the airbox
- TRD Side Engine Mounts
- Nolathan Front and Rear Engine Mounts
- Aftermarket clutch, single plate in twin plate enclosure, rattles a bit when disengaged - this is by design and normal, clutch has about 40,000kms on it
- AussieExhaust Downpipe and mid pipe with factory muffler,

Honest Bits:
- Clutch slave cylinder has a slight leak, fluid resevoir needs to be topped up every service or it will get a bit low.
- Car needs to be driven every 2 weeks or the battery goes flat, if driven regularly its not an issue.
- Wof has 4 months left
- Had minor rust repair in usual places, detailed in the project thread link in my sig
- Sound deadening removed from floor and sanded back and rust proofed with 4 coats of por15 rust eating painted and then 2 coats of por 15primer
- Boot carpet stripped, newer carpet available however boot leaks - needs some time spent with silicone sealant to track it down, boot empty's itself whenever you drive it anyway. Aerial needs sealant as well as it may be leaking a little through there
- boot release handle in cabin does not work, needs new cable, key works
- Bonnet Release spring needs replacing, you have to push the latch closed to close the bonnet
- Engine bay release sticks, need a slight whack on the engine lid and it pops up!
- Custom Blue Paint looks great from a meter away, needs touching up in places, from close inspection you can see the paint is egg shelled. Paint is particularly rough in two places, car could use a respray.
- Power steering pump occasionally (1 time in ten maybe) does not engage and power steering light comes on, turning the car off and on again clears it.
- Has no stereo (removed), would take a few hours to wire one up
- Aircon pump and radiator removed prior to my ownership, I have a spare pump.

I have spent about $11k on the car in it's current state, what do you think? Would love to sell it how it is rather than break it up,

Depends how quickly you'd want to move it. Quick sale would be sub $7k, anything more would take some time. They're one of those niche cars which makes em a bitch to move.

I'd be a bit more brutal, and say maybe more in the $4k region. You'd need a really tidy one to be getting above that, and that means good paint.

Money spent on upgrades as you know, is largely money firmly placed in the nearest toilet

$4-6k (more likely the lower end) in current state IMO. If it was mint then you'd be nearer to the $6k mark. Any more than that is stepping into Gen3/4 territory. They're worth bugger all nowadays - can pick up a turbo SW for the price of a Corolla and that in itself is sad.

I think as I said via PM, you'd be better off flicking the good bits off it and selling the car as a runner with stock gear

Part it out.

No one wanted to buy my old one for $7500 five years ago and it was mint.

So I pulled all the goodies off, and sold it for $4500, then got $3500 for the goodies.

I'll buy the TRD tower bars front and rear and the sill plate thingys.

Got no problem with it, At the end of the day i got a priceless amount of experience from my project so if i make a huge loss im still coming out a winner - I just form a senless emotional attachment to cars - hate selling them - hate breaking them up even more but time to suck it up :D

They are, until you own one. The water running down the nape of your neck soon detracts from the look.
