correct wheel off set

Hey guys, i am looking at some second hand alloys and im just curious as to the correct off set for an AE82 fxgt the wheels in question are 17x7 and the off set i 'think' is 42 will this work? cheers

I'm pretty sure the correct offset is 35. My AE82 doesn't really like any of my 15x6.5 wheels around the 42-45... rubs when on full lock.

Cheers guys i have just test fitted them had had to put a camber bolt in the rear to clear strut and spring cup gave it some positive camber and now clears by a little, no hitting on full lock but its just standard height at the mo, how close is too close?

Your best bet would be to put in some longer studs and run some 5mm slip on spacers.

if it doesn't hit on full lock why would you change it as long as the alignment is not crazy or anything

dicking around with camber or any suspension setting to make wheels fit is a bit silly imo (my opinion being qualified mechanic with AVI cert)

That and putting 17s on an AE82 at all, let alone a stock height one. 15s are where it's at for these imo.

How is this the "best bet"? Sure it might work, but the car will then be uninsured and should fail a WOF for the modification. Not exactly ideal neil just for the sake of fitting some rims. Unless it's a race car that doesn't hit the road.

Best bet is usually the get the right wheels that fit. If its not hitting now though on full lock I wouldn't worry.

yep those are the right wheels.

17x7 35p is not right for that car.

BUT 15's are a WAY better option. 15x6.5 at 38p ideally

If you must run 17's (ghey) then you will most likely need a 3mm spacer

Why do you say 35p on a 7 inch rim is not right? Anything over 40 with a 7inch will be very close to the rear strut.

35mm and you will probably need to the roll the guard lip and encourage it outwards a fraction. 7 inch, 38mm offset is pretty much the ideal rim for the back of any 80/90/100 series corolla

Rolling guards is easy, spacers mean cert is required legally (even slip on), agree 38p on a 7" wide rim would probably give you enough space either side.

And also agree you should be using 15's on an ae82

Man i was unaware fitting wheels was such a mission all good points there guys i was going this way as the wheels were cheap and local, ie young guy who sweeps our workshop, as for mucking around to fit them how will fitting camber bolts make it unsafe? i am also a qualified mechanic and wof inspector and see no danger unless is excessive camber and it will also not be staying at stock height, i also have a wheel alignment machine at my disposal so any issues will be sorted before venturing on to a public road, so in saying all that is there any one who has wheels in a smaller size and better offset that i could look at cheers
