TEMS shocks, ACTIVE SUS

Postby MilfHunter » Sat Nov 19, 2011 9:48 am

Anyone know where I can get these refurbished and or modded?

I'd like to build some into coilovers and keep the suspension system working (ST162) as it' pretty rare.

Anyone notice the ST183 standing at Takanini P/A/P with Active suspension?

Looks like a hydralic system but never seen one before (plenty of TEMS tho).
Wiki shows these were common wheras TEMS isn't mentioned.

Anyone got any more info on TEMS/ACTIVE, links?

TEMS is common, fitted to a bunch of different models. That active one is very random though, similar to UZZ32's perhaps
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

I'm pretty sure that system is on Celicas labelled "active sports" right? I seem to remember seeing several of them around, all of which were very dark green coloured?

Yeah TEMS is common, the active one not so much.
Try pricing genuine, might be cheap

Well, the guys at Albany Toyota had never heard of "Active Sports" (rear badge) either.
They promised to try locate some TEMS dampers for me - that was 3 weeks ago

I was back at Takanini and somone had taken the head, looks like the pump sits
down where the power steering pump normally sits and the block I thought was a pump
is actually some kind of controller

Those active sports ST183's were high tech for their day. I'm amazed that it has kept going this long, especially given it probably had nil maintenance for the last decade.

From what I understand it minimized body roll and improved ride by continually adjusting for the road. A forerunner of today's electrically variable viscosity fluid shocks.

I have KYB's and Kings, handles great - on the road

If I can find some more TEMS struts I'd like to convert them into coilovers
and get the system working again

<pedantic c*nt mode>
they already are coilovers, are the standard factory shocks on pretty much every car that doesn't have leaf springs or torsion arm suspension for the last 20years.

you mean adjusties..
