Before you do all that, if there is a twist in the belt, try pulling it out completely to see if there is a matching twist further up the belt somewhere.
Otherwise, if its just the buckle facing the wrong way (ie. buckle is between belt and b-pillar when retracted) then as mentioned above, fold belt on long angle along length of belt, pull buckle over fold. I usually pull the belt out a bit then tug it so it locks, then you can pull the buckle over the fold using the locked belt to make it easier.
