A while back when I still had an ae101 it was recommended to upgrade to rx7 (s4 I think) brakes..

tried to find the original thread without luck.

Anyway, planning an ae71 build here in Melbourne and thinking of using AJPS adapters/ ae86 hubs + struts, making it a bolt onish upgrade.

However, AJPS's site doesnt recommend a series of caliper, just says that FC RX7 or FD RX7 is ok.

Does the series matter? is there much/ any difference between them?

basially the same caliper, if there is anything different about them it would only be in the mounting points.

id use the s4/s5 (fc) calipers as the s6 are a bit bigger and when you have smaller wheels it can cause issues, I have that same setup on my TA22 .

strx7 - do you have any s4/5 at partsworld? if you do, could you pm me pricing including postage to kilbirnie?

I was under the impression that the s4 was a cast iron caliper and the later ones were aluminium
Could be wrong though...

all S4/5/6/7 rx7 4pots are alloy.

we dont have any at work, best to grab them off trade me.

i do have the templates for fc 4pot + 280mm S13 disc onto AE101 hub.

Any ideas whether these (and tools) would be ok a suitcase going back to Australia? they aren't on the airlines 'dangerous/ hazardous/ banned' list?

Suitcase fine, hand luggage not so much just due to there size and weight could be seen as a weapon.

Sweet, I read the Aussie quarantine/ customs site and seems they are interested in anything related to food or dirt. So if they are sparkling clean, should be fine.

Any suggestions on rear brakes? 4 pot fronts with drums on the rear probably isnt the best....

S6 & 7 Front calipers are lighter than S4 & 5.
Altezza 2 pot rears are a nice caliper which should work in your application.

and they are about the same price!

any recommendations on ways to clean them? I spy brake cleaner on supercheapauto.co.nz but is it really any different to degreaser?

Brake cleaner dries off better than degreaser, its not so oily.
