Intercooler water sprayer - controller build option?

Looking at making a cheap water sprayer system for my pug.
As such I dont want to have to spend $$$ on a controller, so was hoping to make one from kitset parts.

I had originally thought about trying to make on which you could set frequency and duration of the spray (i.e 2 sec spray every 5 min)

I have found time delay relays, or timer kits that would be suitable for the first parameter (i.e how often to switch), but I am stuck on how to make it so that the length of time it trigger for is adjustable.

So...any links to tips to help achieve it?
Or do I just run a couple of potentiometers in series?

Really dont want to have to manually switch the water sprayer :lol:

id start with a switch, then wire in a timer after its all going.

Wouldnt dick smith sell a kit to do what you want?

Personally, Im just going to use the rear window sprayer line and manually activate it while going down the straights :)

Jaycar more likely. Dick Smith are now just an appliance store. Can't even get components anymore

Smaller towns arent too bad. They have the up-rights with components but arent replacing them :(

There used to be a intercooler sprayer kit but cant find it. Maybe Silicon Chip have it in their catalogue still.

You have to buy the article though...I think autospeed used to do a kit that is discontinued now...

Trying to find a repeat cycle delay as that will allow you to set the spray time as well as down time in the one unit.

What ECU are you using? Most aftermarket ECU have a facility for intercooler sprayer (or you can program an output).

You can build a simple 555 timer that will do the job...

So the trigger/switching along with frequency and duration will need to be covered by the controller.

No, its for my daily...but planing on winding up the boost, and diesel fuelling, and as such wanting to improve the cooling of the intercooler which is a top mount. (Other option was a bonnet scoop)

Car is a pug 405... 1.9l of turbo diesel fury!

(But fuelling is so adjustable on this thing it is fantastic! Max fuel, On boost addition, how much boost to trigger the on boost fuelling, such a change to modifying petrol ECU controlled cars)

What type/size jets are you thinking about using for the sprayer pal?

I bought some 0.3mm misters but am yet to see how they perform. Once I have bought my GoPro, I plan on mounting it on the nose of the car and facing it to the FMIC so I can see how the water is atomising at speed, and where its ending up due to the turbulence.

um....what ever size the jets are on the stock window sprayers...
I said this was cheap! :lol:

Peugeot sprayers are on a bar located on the wiper arm. Each bar has 3 sprayers. So I plan to fit one bar to each side of the intercooler and aim it inward toward the other side.

So it will have 6 sprayers onto the cooler.

Unsure of nozzle size at this point, and my ruler only does 1mm increments!

You can buy extremely cheap misters from the gardening section of bummings :)

if it is a diesel, then fork out some $$ for a good 200+psi pump and start spraying a blend of Water & Meths down its throat. it's like NOS to a deisel
The water acts as a cooler, the meths/methanol acts as fuel for the additional intake charge, and you will thoroughly enjoy having extra power at the flick of a switch

depending on how much boost you push, 3GPH or 4GPH max would be enough flow for it, and run 40% meths/60% water

So what do you plan to use as a trigger to start this sprayer? Tps, map, intercooler temp? Sounds like you need a voltage switch and some form of a pulse width controller or a multi purpose timer

Simples solution is a throttle microswitch (same type as used on basic NOS).

True. A micro switch and a valve to control water flow, cant get much cheaper than that
