Steal Shield alarm, how to turn off auto arming.

Postby Al » Tue Mar 13, 2012 4:50 pm

I have a steal shield alarm in the Corolla. It has the most annoying auto arming feature. How do I turn it off? I have no idea what model it is and have no manual or anything. Are these things essentially all the same?

Are we talking auto immobilising or full on auto arming (locks the doors etc)?

Auto immobilising, doesn't arm the doors etc. If you turn the key to ON after it has rearmed the alarm sounds

Requirement of standards approved alrms to auto immobilise, nothing you can do.

Yeah all my alarms do it. None of them have the alarm actually go off when you try to start the car though, they just sorta....don't....start....

Just disconnect the siren?

Still need to push remote button to start, but no annoying noise. Any form of security these days has to be a plus.

It is called an anti hot-wire alarm and sadly it can't be turned off. Mongoose (and some others) have the same thing too and I full agree that it is an annoying pointless "feature"

The fact that the car does not start should be a big enough hint, sadly the alarm manufactures want to make their crap alarms cry wolf and make you feel like an idiot!

Sorry I can't offer a solution other then remove or replace the system.

Yup as said the only option is to get a better alarm :)

Removing the siren will invalidate the insurance rating of the alarm so would not go down that route.

Unless hes replacing it with another alarm I just thought that might be an option. Better to keep some security if it still keeps the immobilisers etc. I guess it would come down to OCD levels

+1 for better alarm being best bet though.

I was thinking of getting GPS tracker with prepaid sim. The Corolla is a car I would rather get back in hopefully one piece than have an insurance pay out for because I can't just buy another one...
