Anyone here take metal to scrap dealers?

Postby Sick Puppy » Thu Mar 29, 2012 1:43 pm

Hi guys, I've got some metal bits and bobs and some car batteries sitting around rusting, and was considering talking them to a metal dealer.

Who are the main outfits to take this stuff to, and is it worth it?

Is there anything I should do beforehand like sorting stuff between magnetic / non magnetic, removing any non-metal bits etc. Thanks for your help!

What sort of stuff? Most stuff they'll take, but some they won't. By that I mean if you split out the metal from glass plastic etc they will take it. Mild steel is worth piss all, but if you have a big amount it might be worth while. Batteries are worth more than steel easily. Will depend on where you go as to how the price them. Most scrappies will probably be sweet as to use. Have used a place on Annex road a few times as that's close to work.

Separate the different metals to make life easier.

A doz beers is still a better deal than paying to get rid of it at the dump!

Cheers for that! You work near Annex Road? Small world, I'm just of of Wigram Road - we're camped out in a factory's canteen since our office is closed indefinitely / in the red zone still... :(

All good. Work is based off Wigram road actually. Must be a bit cramped in the canteen!

Until today, we were double desking - about 26 - 30 of us, so it was kinda cosy... thankfully my 'neighbours' as it were are okay, otherwise there would be blood on the floor! lol

I've used a place in Halswell Jcn Rd before, just by the railway line.

I use scrap metal place on Chapmans road. RRT or resource recycling technologies. Mainly because it's relatively close, though there's a place off Maces rd in bromley which is closer i've never been there to compare prices
