a neighbour down my street has a "phat rota" as he puts it - a 12A in a bugeye Mazda station wagon - running a 4" exhaust system to a "phat dumpy" as he calls it - its loud as hell and he loves to leave it sitting idling in the driveway for half an hour at 6am every morning when he leaves for work - he then leaves and i get up to go to go to work and the whole street is impassable with dense fog - oh wait thats just the smoke from the phat rota burning 3L of oil in that idle time it sits there >_<

"its not rooted thats just how they run"

tui ad much?

more like 2.6L compared to normal 4 stroke engine.... 8O

because good design...

haha iv read your thread, hardly a standard engine. For the money youve spent the rotary could prob 500 whp.

dont get me wrong they have their fsults but wanking on that they are worse than alfas and fiats it just crazy.

and as for the "not 1.3L" They are advertised, Sold and Registered as 1.3L. Just because they have 3 combuston strokes per "crank" revolution doesnt mean they have any more displacement, they have good design. 8)

also how are they not a 4 stroke engine? that still have inlet, compression, ignition and exhaust "strokes"??

granted it was a 1.4 but the twincharged vw engine springs to mind and is a dam sight more reliable and doesnt have to be rebuilt as often
Why dream it when you can live it

 Wtf. If you are going to compare hp. Then you need to compare apple's with apples. Which is power strokes per crank rpm. Suddenly the rotor is thirsty and huge.

What are you moaning about?

You presumably charge stuff out by the hour. You should be thanking Mazda for keeping you in business and helping your profit margins.

And lets face it - Japanese engineers won't give a sh*t about the mechanic servicing the car two decades after they build it.

Boss make money not me, I just annoyed, thats all.

Its that annoying sound from rx-7, bap bap bap bap bap bap bap sounds like 50cc scooter. Maybe buy 50cc scooter for boot when wankel breaks.. maybe Mazda should sell as optional extra.

Off to work on TOYOTA landcruiser. Nice and easy

power vs displacement is a pointless comparison for reasons already stated. better to compare how efficently it makes that power (ie how well it converts petrol to torque)

if it were truly a superior design, it would exceed the piston engine in this department and we would all be driving them  :? :P

PS i love how a thread about transverse V6s can turn into a ROTORS R SHIT thread inside of two pages

Unrelated subject entirely but still kinda on the same topic.

Recently had noticed that one of our cars - a 2008 Maxima (NZ New) has started to shudder a tad under sharp acceleration. Took it in and the mechanics diagnosed (correctly) a $&#$% engine mount. A massive job to get to the back one, removed subframe etc. ( Walked in to check up on at lunchtime, found half a 500m2 workshop floor space covered by parts of my car...decided to wait for the phonecall)

Picked up the car (and the $1200 repair bill) the following day, good as gold, and got shown the old engine mount. It has a wire and a sensor going into it!! As it turned out, in their infinite wisdom Nissan have decided it would be a good idea to make an engine mount which hardens or softens depending on whether you're in forward or reverse..with a chamber of silicone fluid in it. which probably contributed to the fact that it was completely worn out on a 3.5 year old car with 128000km. (conveniently just out of warranty).

Got replaced by a solid aftermarket mount, no difference whatsoever to vibration level compared to how it was before the original one $&#$% out...and will probably last as long as the car.

Perfect example of a carmaker trying to be clever and fix a non-existant problem

You'll find they spent all that money designing that mount to shift the resonance frequency of the car down 2.5hz
Re rotor hate - stock ones dont go brap brap...funnily enough massive camshaft overlap makes piston motors make the same noise.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

gtt are you ask what is majic doodle? Its russian toy, like page of paper size, you use special pen on circles and squares and triangles inside and hit walls and it makes nice pictures. Very popular in my home country. I thought you might have here, but maybe i wrong yes? Maybe just russian toy.
