What happens if your car gets written off and insurance tells you your not covered due to your not being legally on the road? I'm pretty sure you will give a shit then.

this is borrowed from another forum..

reading the LVVTA info sheet as 04/2012 there are a few ways around it.

1. if your car is primarily used for motorsport and you have a current LVV Authority Card you are exempt.

2. if you can prove that your vehicle still meets the following standards 2.2(2)(a), 2.3(8) and 2.4(1). this is covered off in the info sheet. This is still all a guideline and is subject to change in the future (trial period currently)

overall i dont think this is necessarily a bad thing. Gives the LVV certifiers some black and white for certing vehicles but still allows others to get through as long as you can prove its still safe (road and brake performance test)

i do however think its pretty gay that you have to supply an alignment check sheet thats no older than 14days.

They have read it wrong, the road and brake tests apply for the 1/2 degree window outside manufacturers tolerance. Inside manufacturers tolerance they are not required, outside tolerance + 0.5 is motorsport only.

The way I look at it, there should be one rule for all. If lil Johnny's Cefiro on BC coilovers with -3deg camber is deemed unsafe for the road, the same car should also be unsafe for road use if it is used for motorsport. Let's face it, the idiots that this rule is targeting don't have certs anyway so it doesn't bother them. What is stopping people from having excessive camber angles without installing mods (coilovers etc) that require certification? I could quite easily run stupid camber on the evolution and since it only has lowering springs, it would be perfectly legal.

this is my point, its not really that well thought out, and its just going to lead to more and more people not bothering, it will also discredit the lvv system

I blame IRS for this problem.

If everyone had solid axles then everything would be super.

The thing that gets me, is why they $&#$% dont they put some energy into the fact that 1000's of cars on the road have decent shocks, 2 zze corollas with 100k on them this week alone with all 4 shocks rooted.

Out of interest, where do people find these factory specs for camber tolerance?

I asked my wheel allignment guy for a printout, apparently it can vary from machine to machine and they could make it read whatever I needed it to while doing the alignment. Not really the approach I wanted to take though.

Hands up if you just don't give a shit.

Lol, I can understand it being frustrating, but surely condoning people don't give a shit about their cars being legal or not isn't ideal either. Especially with your businesses field of work.

The reply I got on the cert forum was it was the certifiers asking for limits so they could reject some of the rubbish coming through, personally I think they should have just set a reasonable limit like 1 or 1.5 degrees negative (don't really need any more on the road) with the only way to exceed that as manufacturers tolerance specs + 0.5 degrees or motorsport use.
