Do not clip the jiggle valve from the thermostat

Postby gt4dude » Sun Jun 10, 2012 11:58 pm

Seen it mentioned before, But never really argued. To cut off the shitmetal from the thermostat bleed hole or not?

No it's there for a reason.

If you fit the thermostat properly it will do what it is meant to.

I've always removed it, it aids bleeding the cooling system quicker. Some thermostats don't come with them. (oem or aftermarket)

We are talking about a 3mm hole here. Can't say I've experienced any problems (warm up or running cold)

if you think you are smarter than the engineers who built your car, then by all means remove it.

Seems most people think they are.

Sure there are areas of compromise for mass production, but there are many things engineers have put serious work into.

I've had thermostats with jiggle valves, thermostats without jiggle valves, i've replaced ones without jiggles with jiggles and ones with jiggles for ones without jiggles, i've cut jiggles off, i've left jiggles on, i've been told to leave the jiggle alone, i've been told to take the jiggle off.
I've juggled all of these jiggly things.

and the conclusion?
it doesn't $&#$% matter.

u guys are right, swapped the jiggly clipped t-stat for a new stock one, car warms up much much quicker. case closed, dont do it. if theres a need for more coolant flow and more bleeding, the problem lays elsewhere.
