changed the coil to an aftermarket one and now it wont start

Postby tim_blair » Sun Jun 24, 2012 7:08 pm

i changed my coil to an aftermarket one and it didnt work so i changed it back to the factory one but now it doesnt work

it turns over but no spark
its a BT 4age with link storm ECU

i looked at all the fuses i could find but they are all ok is there any less obvious fuses that i should check?

what could be the cause?

does anyone know where there is a wiring schematic that i can look at?

What sort of coil did you put onto it? WAS it a MSD (or other CDI type) coil?

yes you did advise me against doing this with a different coil so i chose one that was "aparently" more compatable but obviously it wasnt

ah yeh. first thing i'd try is another ignitor with the stock coil.

will most likely be the problem

others will work. some have different plugs though. on the link it will only be using 3 of the teminals/wires
ive used quite a few toyota ones on links, but cant help with what will interchange with a blacktop one though sorry

another thing.. did you ground the igintor case when you changed the coil? as they ground through the case

yeh nar

"Ultra Low 0.32 primary resistance"

cdi coil is no good for your setup. there is no need to upgrade the factory coil unless you have a misfire. which you wont on a na setup. nothing to gain, not broken, dont fix it

ignitor and possibly the coil.

you need a coil that works with inductive system, if youre set on changing the coil

what is the reason you think that it will damage my ignitor/ coil?
is it bacause of the low primary resistance?
if so could i put a resistor in series before the coil to reduce the current draw?

can you please explain what you mean by a coil that will work with an inductive system?
