Heater not heating...

Hey all, the wife's fielder Z's heater just doesn't seem to get warm, even after an hour of driving. Is there an obvious solution/fix? Or common problem?

Does temp gauge go up to temperature?

Could be thermostat stuck open. Or blocked heater core but I don't imagine so on such a new car, but you never know.

Heater tap actually working? Check hoses in and out of heater core.

Or the flap that lets air through the heater core is stuck shut.

Temp gauge works fine,doesn't matter what mode it's in wether it's dash vents or windscreen it doesn't get warm. How do I check the core excuse the ignorance?

Check to make sure that when you put the heater from cold to hot and vice versa, the little vacuum operated valve that allows the hot engine water into the heater, is working.

That is of course that modern cars still operate like this?

If the heater core is blocked wait for summer and sell the car.

I changed my heater core and its the worst job I have ever done on a car, you have to remove the whole dash and all heating ducts etc. core cost $50 or so to fix so its not expensive but its just hell and then when it all went back together it didnt seal up quite right so I have to re do the whole thing

Heater core will have an inlet & outlet going through the firewall, inlet coming from the head with a valve to control the flow.
Feel that hose on both sides of the valve to know that it's getting hot & that there's flow through the valve.
Feel the outlet to know whether there is flow through the heater core.

i cant say for certain but i dont think it'll have a valve. if both the hoses are hot, and there is coolant in the engine then you probably have an issue inside the heater box with the main flap like someone mentioned already.

yep,

has to be a blown heater gasket, lol.

IMO it will be the stepper motor that works the flap,
will be external to the actual heater box, probably accessible from one of the footwells.


If it wasn't so dark and cold outside
or my garage wasn't full of broken racear,
I would have a look at mt fielder Z to see what they have.
