That's mental power

Is it really worth it though? Bit like the 491kw (on pump gas - add another 100 on race gas) Evo 8 in NZPC. It's daily driven but has gone through 7 gearboxes in 3 months. I'd sooner have half the power and be able to use it for longer than 5 minutes. Good on them though.

I couldnt agree more. If its not reliable, or even worse, inherently unreliable, then what is the point? Apart from the obvious big number bragging rights that go with it.

Ive kept my boost purposely low in my car, mainly to protect its driveline, but also, because I dont see the point in running it at 10/10ths when 7/10ths is still a whole lot of fun :)

On the other hand, there is over 2000rpm 325+kw of madness. Probably pretty peppy once it gets moving!

drive around town with your foot to the floor, always keeping an eye on the rev counter making sure not to exceed 5000 at the same time watching your following distance hah

Am i reading that right? 2000rpm = 9.6 kW?
3000rpm = 25 kW?

He would get diddled by a scooter round town. A Perfect Lightswitch

As a drag engine or track engine Im sure it would crush anything but the road isnt now nor never will be a race track.

I wonder if this guy has spent as much on his brakes and suspension as he has on under the bonnet mods....

I wonder if he turned upto a track and thrashed it beyond belief if it would last the day at that high boost number, hmmm I suspect not but I'd bet there be a good raft of excuses though..

You mean this one

"Its come to my attention of late that everyone are making or trying to make 4-500kw wheel which is fantastic.......as long as you have a use for it or maybe just bragging rights maybe? Dont get me wrong people can do what ever they please but that sort of power on the road commands respect to just sit in peak hour traffic 4 hours a day with a dyno sheet glued to your side window, a well setup two ...wheel making more than 500hp wheel becomes an issue on many levels a tad more from a 4wd creates the same issues its also about where it makes that power.
Making peak power or full boost at 6k and redline of 7500 isnt a smart or very useable street car a broad power band makes for a user friendly car that doesn't brake shit all the time as long as the accessories are done to support.
What amuses me is 400kw wheel cars banging out low 11's and 4wd showing my age here but 10-15 years ago we had cars making an honest 250-280kw doing that with legends like Brett Lee 4banger doing a high 9 on 300kw wheel, you have to ask your self is all this power people trying to get a smart thing?
Having a 12 inch wanger and you dont know how to use it maybe bragging rights in the pub but will it get you laid ?
You decide.......See more"

I would have thought Steve Murch's comments would be common sense if I'm honest especially in a RWD car it just becomes a handful to drive and the only place you can let it loose is the Dyno Motorway or possibly the drag strip dependent on setup of course.

340kw atw is pretty much the most I would put through these chassis.

Even in mine with well setup brakes & suspension 340kw was too much.
400kw is gona be hectic.

LOL it makes pretty typical 20v power at 3000rpm - what are you saying about 20vs? ;)

I've been involved in one of the most rewarding/amusing tuning projects I've had the opportunity to lately - a mates S14 track car running a turbo matched excellently to the stock motor, a G4 Link, and a couple of sneaky wee tricks to try and get wicked bang for buck which we tried out. For a 4cyl turbo car it had by far the most impressive power delivery I have experienced so far - full boost by around 3000rpm and a completely relentless spread of torque from that point onwards.

To be fair the only cars I have been in so far which could compare with the relative relentless/responsive feeling it gave were an RB30DET powered Skyline built with no expense spared (FullRace twin scroll turbo kit, fancy headwork etc - admittedly a much faster car still, but still rang the same bells), and a 1200kg car with a tuned LS2 dumped in it.

I have to say this brings up an interesting side discussion: what is the ideal amount of power for a street driven daily.

Myself? when I finally get my V9 I will be doing a nice TBE with a good quality drop in replacement filter and a reflash at stm, end result probably 220kw atw or around 350-360hp at the flywheel. should be good for a high 12 and more than enough for the street.

Even my flatmates stock type RA wrx which probably makes around 160kw atw feels more than enough. I am all for 400kw cars but how many of these people think through what they are actually going to do with the car once they reach that power figure? I mean just look at performance car magazine, how many times do you read the cover car article which ends in "and now that XYZ has finished his 500kw evo he has decided to sell it"= translation, I built this thing and am now so in debt I cant upsize my burger king or I have realized I have ruined my daily driver?

Again I am not trying to bag on the original poster its just it seems many people who do similar builds never hold on to them for long and there must be a reason why

in terms of useable power there still is no replacement for displacement
