Spend lots of $$$ building high powered car only to become trailer/garage queen cause too scared it might break when driven

Spend half amount of $$$ building mid powered car which is enjoyed on a daily basis without much concern of it breaking

The best reason to build a car is to please yourself, not others - if he likes it then there is a very valid point to what he has done.

I for one enjoyed having a lowly 300kw Skyline, even if I rarely used it... something kinda heart warming of hearing a nicely flowing tuned sounding 6 cylinder effortlessly chunting you around the place and making potent but restrained big turbo whistles when you just ease onto boost, knowing that all it needs is a flick on the ankle and may a moment for the turbo to go to 1xx,xxx rpm and unleash the goodness.

Honestly, top marks to the man on the kW number. Hell, the dam number looks like with more revs it would keep climbing.

Yet looking on other international sites I found the biggest power anyone has got is 735hp from a 4age based engine. Also, the 20v head has issues with valvesprings. There simply isnt enough room to fit bigger springs to lift the seat pressure and with boost pressures aproching 35+psi, the valves get held off the seats. Also, the crank needs more support as the caps begin to move altering berring clearance resulting in failed berrings.

Im confident that I could build something that could be this powerful, but I never will because of the cost to build not just the engine but the chassis to contain such a monster. And it would be only good for one thing - straight line speed.

This is knowledge gained by research and experince. Experince tells me that torque is far more important than a single kW figure. If I had a choice to get 5Nm of torque @ 3000rpm or 5kW @ 7500 im going to choose the 5Nm as I will feel this more often.

If anything, car magazines that plaster kW ratings all over the front cover and glorify the drivers of such vehicles as gods influence young minds. When they get there first car, they then expect a kW figure and pay anything to get it.

As for green eyed monster? My 292000km old, original 20v st makes a tyre sqealing 84kWs, turns 16.1sec 1/4 mile times, burns a litre of oil every 1000km yet I've now got it to return almost 800km from a tank of gas. As a daily driven 1600cc, what more do you want?

+1 to this post I have seen to many cars like this and being a Supra owner have seen many of these cars over the years online,the street and track and for the most part there is always something wrong with them mechanically.I'm of the addage you can only have so much before the rest is pointless regardless of what your building it for.

Most people would find it bizarre that my race car runs an utterly stock as a rock silvertop putting out dunno how many powers (cos it has never been put on a dyno). But I like doing a zillion events at low speed, as I don't have a rebuild budget.

People have different goals with there cars. Some like a nice daily driver with not much power, some people just care about the number they see on the dyno.

People have different tastes

20v 7agte. Those numbers are not un expected! If I can make 360kw atw on 98 pump gas with a stock head then 400kw is easy on E85.

With a worked head 450kw+ would be doable, I was building an engine to do this and still plan to later in the future :)

Whatever makes a person happy. If you want crazy power and that's your main goal then go for it, build what you want and not what others do.

If I had millions, I'd have stupidly crazy power cars built just because i could :lol: . That's if i already had everything i wanted and had nothing better to spend my money on.

Amen Leon. I'm happy with my 100kw atw, done 13 full rallies now with only 1 dnf, which was gearbox failure. Rather be out there playing than working on it!
