Removing rods from pistons?

I want to separate some rods from pistons in a CA18DET.
It has circlips at either side of the gudgeon pin.
After removing the circlips, should the pin just slide out? It doesn't seem to want to move...
The manual does not say anything about using a press to remove them.
All it says is to heat them in an oil bath to 60-70 degrees.
I don't want to put a pot of oil on the gas stove....Can I just use boiling water?
Does the expansion from heat make them easier to remove? Will I still need to have them pressed out?

Could I use the vice as a press? With suitable support for the piston of course.

I slightly heat the piston on the underside where the meat is around the gudgen. You only need to heat them a little and the pins come straight out.

How much is "a little"?
Hair drier?
Paint stripping heat gun?
Gas welder?

Oil boils at a lot higher temp than water. I don't think you'll have any issues. I'm a professional But seriously, I don't see the danger. People use pots to deep fry things all the time. Deep frying will be MUCH higher temp than what you need.

Just don't add a cup of water when the oil is up to temp.....

Gas torch. Heat each part holding the pin for around 5-8s long.

I just heated up water on a gas stove, works fine, I have also used a heat gun but the water is better for even heat distribution.

chuck them in the oven at 120 on fan bake for 20-30 mins, this should give you the desired amount of heating...

no messy pots of oil etc..

We usually just hit the pistons with the steam cleaned for a few seconds, or just dunk the piston in hot water (from the steam cleaner). I wouldnt use the oven idea as you are giving the pin as much time to heat up. The idea is with water/oil that the ally piston heats up and expands considerably faster than the steal pin, but 20-30 mins in an oven will warm everything up.

30 mins in oven will heat everything up just like an oil bath will. Aluminium expands more than steel so pin comes out easy.

I boiled up a pot of water and stuck each piston in for 20seconds.
The pins were easy to push out, by hand, with a long bolt. Fecking hot if you touch the pin or piston

Most pistons will come apart using hot water just from the tap,
I wouldnt press them if i intended to reuse them

Otherwise a few seconds of gas heating on the back of the skirt works well

Heat them in any of the ways above, which ever is easier for you depending on what equipment you have available.
