Interesting driving in Canada; speed limits are 110kph, but on the way up to Alberta from Vancouver I was sitting at 120kph, yet getting passed by everyone including massive B-trains and police. I sat 130kph most of the trip and still got passed, but by and large only slightly slower than most other traffic.
I saw a couple of police cars parked up with radar guns and they didn't batt an eyelid with me coming past at 130kph. A few of the locals reckoned so long as you're not being stupid or a cop is having a bad day, they're unlikely to ticket you.
In New Zealand, estimates indicate between 600 and 1000 people die each year
smoking-related deaths is between 4,300 and 4,700 per year.
Ministry of Health and University of Auckland study estimated that in 1997 more than 3000 deaths in New Zealand were attributable to overweight and obesity

Maybe its because cars are getting safer and safer every year? Would be the same here if more people invested in safer cars, often the fatalities you see on the news are accompanied with a picture of an old car torn to shreds. Stability control alone would save a lot of people.
Also, if you take Canada's extreme weather away from the equation I bet their toll would be a lot lower than ours.
These 90 Zones have no effect on most Kiwi drivers as 95% of us drive under the speed limit in 100kph zones anyway, its the 5% trying to overtake the people doing 90 that cause most of the acidentes.

Thats cool, just stay the f^&k out of the passing lane so you aren't obstructing traffic. And no speeding up to 110 either.
TTEETT wrote:Nope. Its just an observation, not factual at all, I have just noticed that most people drive at less that 100 kph in 100 zones be it open road or motorway and go very slow around corners, you can drive all the way from Taupo or the Coromadel back to Auckland and guarantee the only time the traffic will start flowing properly will be the hills down from Bombay.
Have also observed that most are quite happy doing 60-65 in a 50 zone and 85-90 in a 70 zone and will not slow down at all for road works.
Its just an observation and I don't believe for one second that lowering the limit to 90 will make a lick of difference.Grrrrrrr! wrote:TTEETT wrote:These 90 Zones have no effect on most Kiwi drivers as 95% of us drive under the speed limit in 100kph zones anyway, its the 5% trying to overtake the people doing 90 that cause most of the acidentes.

I meant "us" as in Kiwi's, I am not the guy blocking the passing lane or sittig in the "fast lane" doing exactly 100kph, if someone want top pass me I will make it very easy for them... I will also make it very uncomfortable for them when they slow down for corners and accelerate and decelerate like a yo-yo.

This! $&#$% Yo-yo style of driving. Really gets me, brave to do 110kph on straight, suddenly a coward doing 30kph in 65kph recommended corner.
This is not a speed limit sign:
But this one is:

They probably meant thats the highest speed you could go round and be able to stop in the length of clear road in front of you (ie, the highest speed you can do and still be able to not be $&#$% if theres a fallen tree at the corner exit.
