With the price they asking ($460), it seems that they buy them from ebay and sell them here. When I contacted them all they could offer was $50 off (it was $590) and free upgrade to 32GB card (as if it was best thing in the world). For the price they originally were selling I could have bought two cameras off eBay.

Make your choice.. do you want cheap, or do you want the protection of CGA etc. and are prepared to pay extra for it. Ain't no free lunch.

There is a free lunch, for the retailers in NZ. I understand the hassle of CGA the retailers might face, but that does not justify 200% markup. I expect to pay 50% more locally, but not 200%.

For example: shitty Chinese shoes sell for same price as you would buy Italian made in Europe.

Another example: NZ produces are more expensive in NZ than in Europe. Milk, butter, cheese, meats, you name it... Why? Because we are the suckers.

Only thing that bothers me is that they printed "Carcam" in same font as "Canon" logo is. Why they keep doing stupid shit like this?

EDIT: here it is http://dashcamtalk.com/carcam-k2000/

It is 720p model (1080p is interpolated). and has some issues...

aha! thanks for that! was wondering if it was too good to be true

and yeah, the font copy does allude to it being a bit dodgy as well

its just a shame that the market seems to be flooded with cheap shitty copies that make it hard to find the actual good ones, short of buying a go pro you can buy a good DVR and a shitty DVR and they look the same externally, but one has shitty cheap insides

hmmm $320NZ + 50% = $480, which is more than the $460 they are asking. Problem solved, go buy it.

Now it is a matter of principle - just a week before they did the sale their offer was $50 off $590 price and free upgrade to 32GB. Imagine if I have taken up that offer.... Now they decide "$&#$% it" will sell them at more realistic price. Why not sell it at that price in first place? What is the likelihood some one will dump $600 on an average camera (for example gopro is at about half that)?

I decided to buy it at $460, turned out they forgot to mention on their site that the prices do not include GST. So I went through as far as beginning the payment, only to see $69 added on top (which makes it $529). So will definitely skip this one.

EDIT: I went back to the website, and there clearly states that the price is GST inclusive. just WTF.

Wow, that is pretty fail. Would you really trust them to stand behind the CGA if they can't even sort out a simple website / the pricing?

Considering you can buy a GoPro locally for that $460, I know which option i'd be going for...

I bought one from ebay. And I got a reply from motoreyes. They said it was a mistake on their site. I told them it was too late as I have already bought one.

Are you going to use it as dash cam, if so, do you have to get a different case (for continuous charging)?

Ended up getting the above one, had a test of it tonight and its actually really good so far

it feels well made and not easily broken like the cheap one, 720P and 1080P are great and are both their own quality, 720P is 30FPS and 1080P is 15FPS, but i didint realise till i poked around in the video details, its nice and smooth in both modes, does about 60-70mb per minute of 1080P which is cool as well, and the microphone is awesome, the old one would clatter and bang and distort at any bump, this one does lose a bit of volume in bumps but its nothing :D

already caught some footage of 2 drivers being utter wankers and refusing to give way - one of them turns out was the neighbor ahahah! hes a bit of a wanker so it never hurts to keep the footage archived.....

the carcam will do the job just fine for me :D

I am dead serious about "name and shame" website, so keep the footage.
Once I have enough material, I will put a site in place.

My plan is using youtube embedded videos, so I don't have to worry about my own streaming server (although not too difficult to setup an html5).

nice :D

Movie maker does a good job of editing the footage for length, so I can just cut the 15-30 second incident out of the 2 minute file and use that without the fluff

thing is you would just have to deal with what i was listening to at the time :P

Can't you just mute/delete the audio track in MM?
