Bolt spacing on Caldina GT-T ST215 hub?

Postby cat007 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 2:19 pm

Hi all

I bought these:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =564896223

After asking about them from this auction:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 151391.htm

The spacing of the two bolts onto the hub are wrong.

I have a 1998 GT-T Caldina ST215 manual.

Are there different specs of hubs between the same chassis?

The spacing on my hub to shock bolts is about 69mm center to center. The ones I got off trademe appear to be about 85mm center to center.
That's the rears - I haven't taken the fronts off yet...

I've just checked the stamping on my firewall and it says ST215W - is there a difference between the ST215 and the ST215W?

And here's a pic comparing the two. The one I just took out of the car is on the right...

i'd say they are from a St210 not a 215, the 2wd struts are longer and have wider bolt spacing - i'm applying 2wd vs 4wd 100 series corolla logic here but i'm pretty sure the same applies

Thanks for that.

Whats the ST210? Is that just the 2wd version or?

ST210 = 2WD
ST215 = 4WD

All of the GT and GT-T models were 4WD.

They've given you the wrong shocks by the looks of things as they also wreck lower spec Caldinas. Take them back and get a refund or exchange.

could have also sent you the struts out of the wrong vehicle, it does happen from time to time.
$500 for a set of struts is up there price wise IMHO. I had a ST215 on the yard and someone wanted a set of struts i would have said $400-450.

Yeah it's pretty pricey but I just want the job done. Sick of being messed around ironically enough.

You asked for shocks from this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 151391.htm

They most likely gave you shocks from this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 519045.htm

Yep $630 delivered according to sponsors section. Not really much of a saving when you consider brand new shocks vs 2nd hand unknowns.

I must be missing something....I can't see that pricing anywhere - unless you're talking about this:

viewtopic.php?p=773171#773171

I'm guessing that's the shocks only, not springs and top hats, which I need as I currently have pillow ball teins in the car and they're too costly too repair.

Yes it's shocks only. Can you just go new shocks + grab some standard top hats? I wouldn't have thought they would cost all that much. Someone likely has some hoarded.

If you can find out if the springs are the same size across all of the models in that particular generation of Caldinas then an AT211 (7A-FE model) came into Mangere Pick-A-Part this week. Every time I go back more and more parts have been scavenged off it, but the suspension was still there yesterday. Top hats would be the same across all of the various specs I'd say.

Oh hah nah that spring is some awful lowered thing that was a temp solution (combined with a stuffed stock shock) until I had the tein repaired but it'll cost heaps to repair it as there's buts broken off it so will be cheaper to get the whole set replaced.

I got some parts from him, found him bit pricey (but needed the part ASAP so had to use him) and when I picked up the guy that worked there pulling the parts off knew less about cars than my sister. And the owner wasn't a lot better.
